The national spotlight will shine brightly on Beaver Stadium this weekend when No. 6 Oregon faces No. 3 Penn State in one of the season’s most anticipated games. With ESPN’s College GameDay in town for the 7:30 p.m. ET primetime broadcast on NBC, the infamous White Out atmosphere promises an electric night in Happy Valley. But beyond the top-10 clash, a powerful storyline draws attention: a tribute to the late conservative leader Charlie Kirk.

How Will Turning Point USA Honor Charlie Kirk at the White Out?
Turning Point USA, the conservative organization Kirk co-founded in 2012, announced it will distribute 5,000 “freedom” T-shirts before Penn State’s showdown with Oregon. The gesture carries deep symbolism. On September 10, Kirk was shot and killed during a speaking event at Utah Valley University while wearing one of those same shirts. The tragedy stunned his supporters nationwide, and many have vowed to continue his mission.
To honor his memory, TPUSA will host a tailgate at Lot 41 before kickoff, offering the free shirts to Penn State students who show valid student section tickets. According to organizers, the effort is meant to blend Kirk’s passion for cultural battles with one of his favorite environments: college football.
Conservative commentator and Kirk’s friend, Benny Johnson, explained the tribute emotionally. “In the vein, and in honor of Charlie Kirk, we are going to fight cultural battles, and we are going to win them in an arena that Charlie loved so very much, college football,” he said during a recent appearance on the Will Cain Country show.
Johnson also stressed how fitting it was that this tribute aligns with Penn State’s celebrated White Out tradition. “Turning Point USA, at the game of the week, Penn State versus the Oregon Ducks, this is going to be a massive game. This was a game that Charlie Kirk was going to attend. Charlie Kirk loves Oregon, but he also has a bunch of fans at Penn State and has done huge events there,” Johnson noted.
He continued by pointing out the visual impact the shirts could have inside Beaver Stadium. “It’s going to be a white out game at State College. So, it’s going to look great in the stands. And we want the entire stand, 100,000 people in that bowl. So, it’s going to be a fraction of them. But we want the student section to be popping with Charlie Kirk Freedom shirts for the white out at Penn State this weekend. This happens on Saturday. There’s going to be a Turning Point table, and we’re going to hope to do Charlie proud by fighting those cultural battles.”

While the tribute is a significant storyline, the matchup itself is season-defining. Penn State (3-0) and Oregon (4-0) enter the game undefeated, with their eyes on a College Football Playoff berth. Penn State has rolled through its early schedule behind Head Coach James Franklin’s balanced attack. At the same time, Oregon has dominated opponents with explosive plays from quarterback Dante Moore and a physical defense.
The White Out setting adds extra pressure and intensity and provides a massive opportunity. Both programs can showcase their championship credentials to a national audience, making a statement that will echo for the rest of the season.
Ultimately, the pregame tribute ensures Charlie Kirk’s name will be woven into the White Out narrative. For TPUSA and its supporters, Saturday offers a chance to honor Kirk’s memory on one of college football’s grandest stages. For Penn State and Oregon, it’s about proving they belong in the playoff conversation.
