Penn State Nittany Lions quarterback Drew Allar heartbreakingly suffered a season-ending injury. He injured his ankle in the Nittany Lions’ 22-21 loss to the Northwestern Wildcats, crashing the team’s hopes of playoff contention.
The senior quarterback suffered an injury attempting to convert a third-and-3 in the fourth quarter. He went down holding his left leg, and head coach James Franklin confirmed he would miss the rest of the season.

Penn State Fans React Following The Heartbreaking End To Drew Allar’s College Football Career.
After the Penn State quarterback suffered a season-ending injury against Northwestern, support flooded in online, while also calling out Allar’s head coach, as the Nittany Lions’ season imploded after going 0-3 in the Big Ten.
“Say what you want about Drew Allar. He’s a good dude. Cares so damn much. It’s going to be a long way back. Best wishes to Drew. The future is uncertain. ” One fan wrote about Allar.

Tragically, Allar opted out of the 2025 NFL Draft to return for his senior year. He passed for 1,100 yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions, leading Penn State to a 3-3 record, as their hopes for the season ended with him.
Initially ranked as a three-star recruit, Allar went on to throw for 7,539 yards and 61 touchdowns across 46 games, also adding 757 rushing yards and 13 scores on the ground.
Following today’s loss, the team is 0-3 in the Big Ten for the first time since 2004, excluding the 2020 season, and has lost three straight games for the first time since the 2021 season.
“Drew Allar’s Penn State career is over. Wish it had a better ending, and wish him the best at the next level. At least we should learn if Grunk is good enough for the QB1 spot or if we need to go to the portal for 2026.” One fan wrote.

Allar’s backup, Ethan Grunkemeyer, came in for the rest of today’s game. He saw action in three games earlier this season, completing eight passes for 105 yards and a touchdown, as he prepares to take over as the starter for Franklin.
“We recruited Ethan because we’ve seen over time that he’s got a chance to be a really talented player in the Big Ten and nationally,” Franklin spoke of the quarterback back in December of 2023; however, he may not be the coach for his first game as a starter.
“Penn State failed Drew Allar and now the kid has to finish his career on the sidelines. Fire James Franklin into the sun and start fresh. Penn State may not win another game this season….” Another fan wrote, adding to the list of voices calling for Franklin’s firing.

This heartbreak suggests that the Nittany Lions may not win another game this season. With six more games remaining this season, PFSN’s playoff meter projecting them to win seven games this season doesn’t seem impossible. But they have to come a long way.
