Jimmy Sexton Accused of Lying as Fans Don’t Buy Steve Sarkisian’s NFL Job Clarification

Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns narrowly hung on to a 16-13 overtime victory against the Kentucky Wildcats last weekend. Following the victory, the Longhorns are currently 5-2 on the season and have a 13.87% chance of making the playoffs.

Today, a report linking Sarkisian with a move to the National Football League emerged. However, the Longhorn’s head coach’s agent, Jimmy Sexton, released a statement denying these alleged reports.

Jimmy Sexton Accused of Lying After Shooting Down Steve Sarkisian NFL Rumors.

In a recent article, The Athletic’s senior NFL insider Dianna Russini discussed the current coaching carousel in the NFL. In this article, Russini revealed the situation surrounding both the Miami Dolphins and Tennessee Titans, with Sarkisian’s name emerging.

“Any reports regarding communications on coaching opportunities with NFL teams are patently false and wildly inaccurate. Sark is solely focused on coaching the University of Texas football team.” Sexton shared.

According to Sexton’s biography page on Sports Business Journal, Sarkisian’s agent has negotiated over $3.3 billion in NFL contracts, including those for Eli Manning, J.J. Watt, and Matthew Stafford.

“Is Jimmy Sexton every coach’s agent!? Literally hear this name every time.” One fan questioned, and it’s almost the truth.

Sexton is also the agent of other College Football head coaches, including Kirby Smart, Sarkisian, Mike Norvell, Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin, and current Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer.

However, some fans have caught onto a potential play that Sexton could be running. Immediately following the announcement, theories emerged online claiming that the agent set this up for his client.

“He’s using it for a raise. Classic Jimmy Sexton bs he leaked it.” One fan suggested, with more continuing with the same rhetoric.

“Don’t nobody believes Jimmy Sexton. Tell him to leave our sport, HE’S BANISHED.” Another fan continued.

“Ya he’s gonna be the Titans or Giants HC next year!!” One fan suggested.

Sarkisian has previously served in the NFL. He served as quarterbacks coach for the Oakland Raiders in 2004 and spent two seasons as offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons from 2017 to 2018, but never as a head coach.

“I’m told that representatives for Texas coach Steve Sarkisian have let NFL decision-makers know that he would be interested in potential head-coaching openings, including the Titans’,” Russini revealed. The Titans’ head coach is currently Brian Callahan.

The Titans are 1-6 this season, but they will inherit one of the top draft picks for 2026. Sarkisian could choose to take his quarterback with him to the NFL. The current starting quarterback for the Titans is former Miami Hurricane Cam Ward.

No clause in Sarkisian’s contract explains what would happen if he goes to the NFL. His current buyout at Texas is $55 million. However, there is a clause in his contract revealing whether the Longhorns would owe him that if he moved to the NFL.

If Sarkisian decides to leave Texas on his own accord, by resigning or taking another job, that buyout starts at $10 million in 2024, then drops every year except for 2029. Sarkisian signed a contract extension in 2024.

With the NFL rumors circulating, the Longhorns’ head coach will undoubtedly be focusing on the current job, as Sexton stated. After a 5-2 start to the season, they currently have their back against the wall, but they still have a shot at making it to the playoffs.
