The Brian Kelly era at LSU has officially come to an end. While the move initially shocked the college football world, there was an inevitability given that a season that began with national championship aspirations capitulated into playoff irrelevancy.
Now, as LSU begins its search for a new head coach, attention turns to the roster. In today’s landscape of revenue sharing and instant transfer eligibility, player movement is almost inevitable. With that in mind, here are five players who could test the college football transfer portal following Kelly’s firing.

Michael Van Buren Jr.
Michael Van Buren Jr. transferred to LSU from Mississippi State with hopes of taking over as the Tigers’ next great signal-caller. Seen as the heir apparent to Garrett Nussmeier, Van Buren’s strong arm and athleticism made him a promising fit in Brian Kelly’s offensive system.
Yet, with a new coaching staff set to take over, and potentially an entirely different offensive philosophy, Van Buren may find himself reassessing his future. Having already transferred once, he’s no stranger to the portal process. Another move could be on the horizon if the incoming coach’s system doesn’t align with his strengths.
Whit Weeks
A fan favorite and one of LSU’s most productive defenders, Whit Weeks has built a reputation as a tackling machine. Over his three seasons in Baton Rouge, he’s drawn lofty comparisons to former NFL star Luke Kuechly thanks to his instincts, range, and leadership on defense.
Weeks faces a pivotal decision: declare for the NFL Draft or return for another college season. If he opts to stay, the coaching uncertainty could prompt him to consider another program. With nearly every contender in the country likely to come calling, Weeks would be one of the most sought-after linebackers in the college football transfer portal.
Trey’Dez Green
Sophomore tight end Trey’Dez Green has quietly become one of LSU’s most dangerous offensive weapons. After a promising freshman campaign in 2024, Green has taken another leap this season, recording 21 catches for 264 yards and four more scores in just six games.

At 6’6″ with elite athleticism, Green presents a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses. Should he hit the portal, virtually every major program in the country would line up for his services. With a new offensive staff on the way, Green may look for a situation that can better showcase his growing talent.
Harlem Berry
One of the crown jewels of LSU’s 2025 recruiting class, Harlem Berry entered college football as the No. 1 running back prospect in the nation, and he’s already showing early why he was so highly sought after. The 5’11”, 190-pound true freshman from Louisiana brings an electrifying blend of speed, vision, and burst that has fans excited for the program’s future.
However, with a coaching change and uncertainty surrounding the direction of the offense, Berry could become a prime target for other elite programs looking to add immediate backfield firepower. Losing him would be a devastating blow to LSU’s offensive future.
DJ Pickett
Another elite freshman, DJ Pickett, came to LSU as one of the most highly coveted cornerbacks in the 2025 class. Standing 6’5″ and 195 pounds, Pickett’s rare combination of size, speed, and ball skills makes him a natural fit for the modern game.
Despite being new to SEC competition, Pickett hasn’t looked out of place, showing flashes of lockdown ability that justify his five-star billing. Yet, like Berry, he may see the program’s uncertain future as an opportunity to explore other options, especially if a rebuilding phase looms in Baton Rouge.
