Eugenie Bouchard had a challenging day navigating New York City while it was raining. She documented her distressing experience of being caught in the rain on social media.
This was not the first time the former world No. 5 encountered difficulties in New York City. Last month, she was scheduled to throw the ceremonial first pitch at the New York Mets vs. San Diego Padres game at Citi Field. However, she was unable to reach the stadium on time due to a delayed flight and traffic congestion.
Eugenie Bouchard Shares How She Navigated New York City in Rain
Recently, Bouchard shared a series of pictures depicting her travels through New York City. One photo showed her sitting in a cab as the rain poured down, and she expressed that the city “shuts down” with just a bit of rain.
The former world No. 5 revealed that she spent over an hour stuck in traffic because of the downpour and learned her lesson about taking the subway when it rains in the city.
“crazy how ny shuts down with a little rain,” Bouchard captioned her Instagram story.
“1hr in this cab and counting. lesson learned: when it rains – take the subway !l!” she continued.
“ok more than ‘a little,’” Bouchard wrote.
Bouchard later mentioned that she had taken the subway home and also revealed that she had slipped and fallen on the platform due to the wet conditions. She also expressed her gratitude to the man who helped her up after she fell.
“took the subway home, figured i was being smart, then totally wiped out on the platform because it’s so slippery from the rain… so what’s the solution here? thank you to the nice man who helped me up!” Bouchard added.
On the tennis side of things, Bouchard played her final professional WTA match at the 2025 Canadian Open. In the first round, she defeated Emiliana Arango with scores of 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. She was eliminated in the second round by Belinda Bencic, with a score of 2-6, 6-3, 4-6.
Bouchard To Compete at Pickleball Slam 4
Bouchard made her professional pickleball debut in January 2024 by joining the Professional Pickleball Association (PPA) Tour. She is currently ranked world No. 9 in women’s singles according to the PPA Tour rankings.
Speaking about her transition from tennis to pickleball, Bouchard expressed that she has enjoyed the challenge of learning a new sport. She recalled how she started playing pickleball without fully understanding the rules of the sport, but has since made significant improvements. She also acknowledged that she still has a long way to go to master the game.
“It’s definitely been a journey. I’ve really enjoyed the challenge of learning a new sport. I remember my first ever singles match, after the first point I didn’t even know I had to go get the ball. I didn’t even know how it worked barely, so I’m proud of the improvement I’ve done. There’s still a long way to go, though,” Bouchard said.
Bouchard first competed in the Pickleball Slam in 2025, which was the third edition of the event. She teamed up with Andy Roddick and faced the duo of Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf. Agassi and Graf emerged as the champions, with the eight-time Grand Slam champion extending his undefeated streak at the Pickleball Slam, making him a three-time champion.
The fourth edition of the Pickleball Slam is scheduled for April 2026. It will be played at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, featuring a $1 million prize pool. Bouchard will be returning to compete in this event and will partner with Anna Leigh Waters, the World No. 1 pickleball player. Together, they will take on the three-time defending champion, Agassi, and his partner James Blake.
