The South Carolina Gamecocks under Shane Beamer started the 2025 season ranked No. 13 with playoff aspirations, but reality has hit hard. After their latest defeat, the team has fallen to a disappointing 3-5 record and is currently trailing Ole Miss at halftime. PFSN’s playoff meter now projects South Carolina to finish the season 4-7.
As the Gamecocks look set to fall at the first hurdle of a brutal SEC schedule, the conversation in Columbia has shifted from championship dreams to a much more pressing question: Will the Gamecocks even make a bowl game?

Fans Demand Shane Beamer’s Firing
During the Gamecocks’ game against Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss Rebels tonight, the head coach was called out by fans online following a series of poor clock-management decisions. Offensive coordinator Mike Shula has also been the center of attention recently.
Shane Beamer needs to be fired for simply continuing to allow Mike Shula call plays

“Shane Beamer needs to be fired for simply continuing to allow Mike Shula call plays,” one South Carolina fan suggested at halftime.
Earlier yesterday, on campus, a small number of South Carolina students protested. They marched across campus, loudly demanding that the school “Fire Shula” as his offense continues to struggle this season.
Meanwhile, the entire offense has also struggled. According to PFSN’s CFB Offense Impact metric, the Gamecocks currently possess just the 254th-best offense in the country. This has led to mass protests on campus from Gamecock fans outside of games.
This is entirely Shane Beamer’s fault. He CAN’T see his assistant coaches limitations.
Who’s gonna be the new head coach at South Carolina?

“This is entirely Shane Beamer’s fault. He CAN’T see his assistant coaches’ limitations. Who’s gonna be the new head coach at South Carolina?” another fan commented.
During tonight’s game, Beamer bizarrely called a timeout when Ole Miss was prepared to allow the clock to run down to halftime. There were also numerous fourth-down situations where the play-calling began to irk fans.
I’m out on Beamer. If he hears Shula call that play after a turnover with less than 2 minutes to go and he doesn’t force Shula to call a different play than he isn’t capable of leading a program

“I’m out on Beamer. If he hears Shula call that play after a turnover with less than 2 minutes to go and he doesn’t force Shula to call a different play than he isn’t capable of leading a program,” one fan stated after Shula tried to run the ball with just two minutes left on the clock.
Following a turnover from South Carolina, with 1:19 to go, a series of baffling play calls from Shula led to a punt. After attempting to run it on first down, the Gamecocks gained just three yards and refused to take a timeout. The following two plays resulted in two incomplete passes.
Shane Beamer continues to clock management like a 6 year old playing Madden for the first time vs. his older brother, while the older brother tells him what to do so he can win

“Shane Beamer has quit on this team and the team has quit on Shane Beamer the fans have quit on Shane Beamer we are tired of this bullshit fire his ass TONIGHT,” another fan commented, a sentiment shared by many Gamecock fans.
Beamer, who holds a 32-26 record during his tenure, led the Gamecocks to AP Top 25 finishes in 2022 and 2024. The university showed faith in his leadership in January 2025, extending his contract through Dec. 31, 2030, with a new annual salary of $8.125 million.
According to reports from USA Today, the head coach would be set to receive $27,903,958, which ranks as the No. 24 most expensive buyout in college football, according to the report.
