ESPN College GameDay Location for Week 11

  • Location: Lubbock, Texas
  • Matchup: Texas Tech vs BYU
  • Show time: 9 a.m. ET
  • TV Channel: ESPN

ESPN announced on Saturday that the long-running college football program will be in Lubbock, Texas, on Nov. 8 to drum up a marquee Big 12 Conference clash of the week between the No. 13 Texas Tech Red Raiders (8-1, 5-1 Big 12) and the No. 10 BYU Cougars (8-0, 5-0 Big 12), whose aim is to remain unbeaten after Week 11.

Both teams face a Top 25 opponent for the second time this season, as Texas Tech and BYU outplayed Utah on separate occasions to become two of the top teams in the conference.

The Saturday clash could have monumental implications for the College Football Playoff scenario, with the Red Raiders and Cougars rising above everyone in their conference and apparently peaking at the right time heading into their highly anticipated matchup.

This is the second time College GameDay, hosted by Rece Davis as well as Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard, Nick Saban, Pat McAfee, and other analysts, will head to Lubbock, and the first since 2008.

One of the show’s highlights at that time was Lee Corso donning the Raider Red mask. He also fired off the customary shotguns to hype up Texas Tech fans, who were on hand to see their team pull off a stunning upset of No. 1 Texas at AT&T Stadium.

This is also the third time Texas Tech and BYU have faced each other since 1940, with both teams splitting their initial outings. The Cougars won the latest installment of the matchup 27-14 on their home turf in Peoria, Utah, and the Red Raiders are out for revenge and to hand the visitors their first loss of the season.

The Cougars have been one of the Big 12’s biggest surprises, powered by a rushing attack that ranks 15th nationally. The duo of LJ Martin and quarterback Bear Bachmeier has been a nightmare for defenses, combining for 1,197 rushing yards on 226 carries with 14 touchdowns.

Bachmeier is also excellent in passing, completing 62.7% of his passes for 1,693 yards with 11 TDs and three interceptions. BYU averages 35.8 points per game, which ranks 23rd in the nation, while its defense is even better, holding opponents to just 17.0 ppg (15th).

The Red Raiders, meanwhile, could be the better team on paper, scoring 43.6 ppg, fourth-best in the nation. Their defense, meanwhile, holds opponents to 12.4 ppg, which also ranks fourth-best in college football.

Texas Tech averages 499.4 total yards per game behind the efficient play of quarterback Behren Morton, who has thrown for 1,501 yards, 13 touchdowns, and three interceptions. Running back Cameron Dickey has also been a key contributor with 678 rushing yards and nine touchdowns.

ESPN College GameDay Guest Picker for Week 11

One of the highlights of the show is its weekly celebrity guest, who doubles as a picker for the highlighted games of the weekend. This year, the guests have come from Hollywood, the NHL, the NBA, and the WNBA, with the likes of Jelly Roll, Trae Young, Sabrina Ionescu, Theo Von, Candace Parker, and LaVar Arrington gracing the weekly sports presentation.

ESPN has yet to reveal who the College GameDay celebrity picker will be for Week 11, but Kirk Herbstreit dropped a hint that it might be Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes.
