After defeating a physically struggling Alexander Zverev in the semifinals of the 2025 Paris Masters, Jannik Sinner shared his thoughts on the German’s difficulties and also reflected on reaching the final in Paris for the first time.
This semifinal match at the ATP Masters 1000 hard court tournament marked the ninth meeting between Sinner and Zverev on the ATP Tour. With this victory, the former World No. 1 improved his head-to-head record against Zverev to five wins and four losses. Their last encounter was just a week prior in the final of the 2025 Vienna Open, where Sinner won with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.

Sinner is the top seed at the 2025 Paris Masters, and he began his campaign in the second round after receiving a first-round bye. He defeated Zizou Bergs with a score of 6-4, 6-2 in his opening match, and then overcame 17th seed Francisco Cerúndolo with a score of 7-5, 6-1 in the third round.
In the quarterfinals, Sinner eliminated fifth seed Ben Shelton with a 6-3, 6-3 score, advancing to the semifinals. There, he faced the defending champion and third-seeded Alexander Zverev, securing a dominant victory with a score of 6-0, 6-1.
Following his win over Zverev in the semifinals of the 2025 Paris Masters, during the post-match interview, Sinner stated that he cannot speak highly of his victory as the German was not at his best physically and therefore couldn’t compete at his usual level.
The Italian mentioned that Zverev, coming into the semifinals match after playing a very demanding quarterfinal match, must have found it “difficult.”
“I feel like today we cannot talk a lot about the match, to be honest. He was far away from 100%. He won yesterday a very, very tough match, very long, very physical, very mental. Coming back the day after playing a semis, it’s very, very difficult. He making final in Vienna, coming here, it’s a very very tough task,” Sinner said.
Speaking about reaching the final at the Paris Masters for the first time, Sinner expressed that he was “very happy” and that it meant a lot to him.
“I’m obviously very happy with how I handled the situation on the court. Very happy, and yeah, first final here in Paris. It means a lot to me, and let’s see what’s coming,” he added.
En route to the semifinals at the 2025 Paris Masters, Zverev had defeated Camilo Ugo Carabelli (6-7(5), 6-1, 7-5), 15th seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (6-2, 6-4), and 11th seed Daniil Medvedev (2-6, 6-3, 7-6(5)).
The Road Ahead for Sinner at the 2025 Paris Masters
Following his victory over Zverev in the semifinals of the 2025 Paris Masters, Sinner is set to take on ninth seed Félix Auger-Aliassime in the final of the tournament.
Auger-Aliassime started his campaign at the ATP Masters 1000 hard court tournament in Paris by defeating qualifier Francisco Comesaña with a score of 6-7(2), 6-3, 6-3 in the first round. He then eliminated Alexandre Müller with a 5-7, 7-6(5), 7-6(4) score, and advanced past Daniel Altmaier by a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the second and third rounds, respectively.
In the quarterfinals, the former World No. 6 triumphed over wild card Valentin Vacherot with a score of 6-2, 6-2. He secured his place in the final against Sinner by defeating 13th seed Alexander Bublik with a 7-6(3), 6-4 score in the semifinals.
Sinner and Auger-Aliassime have met four times on the ATP Tour, with each player winning two matches. Their most recent encounter was in the semifinals of the 2025 US Open, where the former World No. 1 emerged victorious with a scoreline of 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Sinner then went on to finish as the runner-up to Carlos Alcaraz in the final of the Grand Slam.
