College football continues to provide change and uncertainty. From the coaching carousel to the transfer portal, teams are on edge, knowing they could lose their coaches and star players.
Kansas State star running back Dylan Edwards struggled to stay healthy this year. He was injured on the first play of the season and never got back on track. Now, he plans to enter the transfer portal, and we’re looking at potential landing spots for him.
What Are 5 Transfer Portal Landing Spots for Dylan Edwards?
Finding explosive players in the portal hasn’t been easy. Quality talent hasn’t transferred as much as teams would like, making any player who enters the portal a hot commodity. Edwards fits that category and should have many suitors at his disposal.
1) Notre Dame Fighting Irish
At one point, Edwards was a Notre Dame commit, so this feels like a natural fit. The Fighting Irish expect to lose Jeremiyah Love and potentially Jadarian Price next year, leaving the running back room open. Even if Price comes back, the combination of the two would make a great pairing.
Edwards provides the Irish with a suitable replacement for Love’s explosive abilities. He may not have the frame to match, but he’s lightning in a bottle just like Love. CJ Carr’s return at quarterback gives the offense a solid playmaker, and he should be even more confident after this year leading the offense.
2) Memphis Tigers
If Ryan Silverfield remains in place for another year, his program will become an attractive destination for many transfer portal players. Edwards’ stock should be a hot one, but he also may have to go the Group of Five route, too.
The Tigers have NIL money to spend, and need to replace at least one of their running backs. Edwards would be a plug-and-play type player who ensures the Tigers can continue competing for an American Conference championship next year.
3) Oklahoma Sooners
At this point, John Mateer should come back to Norman next year, and that could attract a talent like Edwards. Imagine the combination of these two in the Sooners’ backfield. Running backs coach DeMarco Murray and head coach Brent Venables recruited Edwards out of high school, so they’re familiar with his abilities.
Oklahoma currently ranks 91st in rushing offense, so it’s clear they need to upgrade that part of their offense. It starts on the offensive line, but adding Edwards to their running back room helps solve that problem, too.
4) Washington Huskies
Demond Williams will need a partner in the backfield with Jonah Coleman gone, and Edwards gives the Huskies an explosive threat at the position. Jedd Fisch continues to be linked to current job openings, so that might limit the legitimacy of this landing spot.
It’s clear that offensive coordinator Jimmie Dougherty features his running back as much as possible. Edwards can be the star of the show when healthy, and his explosive abilities give Dougherty’s offense good balance.
5) TCU Horned Frogs
While the Horned Frogs didn’t offer him out of high school, they learned firsthand why that was a mistake. Edwards’ first collegiate game came in Fort Worth against the Horned Frogs, producing 159 total yards and four total touchdowns.
If Josh Hoover comes back next year, he’ll need a more consistent rushing attack. The Horned Frogs’ offense is explosive through the air, but their rushing attack ranks 108th. Edwards could singlehandedly fix those issues.
