Taylor Fritz’s campaign at the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin ended disappointingly, but the journey home gained unexpected attention thanks to his girlfriend, Morgan Riddle. Through a series of Instagram stories, Riddle documented the chaos of traveling back to the United States with humor and candor, capturing moments that resonated with tennis fans and travelers alike.
Her behind-the-scenes perspective provided an entertaining look at what happens when professional athletes depart after tournament exits.
Morgan Riddle’s Journey Issues After Taylor Fritz’s Group Stage Elimination
Fritz concluded the ATP Finals with a 1-2 record in the Jimmy Connors Group. He opened strongly, defeating Italian Lorenzo Musetti 6-3, 6-4 on Monday, winning 84% of his first-serve points and controlling the match from the baseline.
His campaign then faltered significantly. World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz defeated Fritz 6-7(2), 7-5, 6-3 on Tuesday in a two-hour, 50-minute battle. Two days later, Australian seventh seed Alex de Minaur completed his elimination with a 7-6(3), 6-3 victory on Thursday.
Following his exit, Fritz and Riddle began their return journey, which Riddle chronicled through viral Instagram stories. One story showed smoke from an open field at John F. Kennedy International Airport, captioned with “that can’t be good.”

Adding humor to the tense situation, Riddle wrote, “imagine looking out the window as you’re landing and you just see this,” along with Theme from New York by Frank Sinatra playing in the background.

Another story featured Riddle presenting a passionate argument about baggage claim procedures, insisting that unless passengers are actively grabbing luggage, an airport law should require people to stand at least five feet back from the claim area.

She emphasized the issue by capitalizing “SO IMPRACTICAL!!!!” to convey her frustration. She joked about her 70-pound suitcase, commenting that she would not feel bad accidentally striking someone with it while collecting luggage.

Riddle has become one of professional tennis’s most dedicated partners, regularly attending Fritz’s tournaments and maintaining a prominent presence throughout his career. The couple met in 2020 through a dating application and has been together since.
A Look at Fritz’s Impressive 2025 Season
Fritz’s 2025 season proved to be consistent and productive, despite his ATP Finals campaign falling short of expectations. The American maintained a solid 53-23 win-loss record throughout the year, demonstrating remarkable consistency at the highest level of professional tennis competition.

On the grass courts, Fritz claimed two significant ATP titles that highlighted his competitive form and skill. He triumphed at the Boss Open in Stuttgart, defeating World No. 3 Alexander Zverev 6-3, 7-6(0) in commanding fashion. Fritz also captured the prestigious Lexus Eastbourne International crown, defeating Jenson Brooksby 7-5, 6-1 in the final.
Despite finishing the ATP Finals early with a disappointing 1-2 group-stage record in Turin, Fritz’s overall 2025 performance ensured he concluded the year as America’s second top-ranked player after Ben Shelton, standing as a testament to his sustained excellence and continued dominance on the professional circuit.
