It wouldn’t be Draymond Green without some headlines following him and some altercation. But on this occasion, was he justified in his reaction? Green offered clarity on the latest incident to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, his co-host on the podcast “Why is Draymond Green talking about Football.”

Draymond Green Discusses Altercation With Fan Over Viral Angel Reese Jibes
Green squared up to a fan during the Golden State Warriors’ 124-106 win over the New Orleans Pelicans Sunday night in an incident that has since gone viral.
Opinions are mixed regarding Green’s altercation. One TV host thought it was witty of the fan. Nevertheless, questions continue to arise about how much contact players and fans should have during games.
Essentially, Green at one stage missed some shots, gobbled up the offensive rebounds, and missed the resulting putbacks. One fan in the stands mocked the sequence and vocally jibed him, comparing him to WNBA star Angel Reese. The Chicago Sky All-Star often gets criticized by a section of fans for that aspect of her game. She’s a career 42% shooter, but averages 12.9 rebounds.
Reportedly, Green took it in stride at first and found it amusing until he reached the limit of his patience and confronted the fan during a stoppage. The altercation didn’t escalate, and one of the referees intervened to break it up.
According to ESPN, Green was quoted as saying: “It was a good joke at first, but you can’t keep calling me a woman.”
Green’s Clarification and the Mixed Opinions on the Incident
On his podcast with NFL insider Schultz, he clarified the incident further: “He’s been doing it constantly the entire game. A: You’re using it to try and disrespect her, and disrespect me, which is whack in itself.”

According to Green, the fan went too far with the Reese disrespect: “But it’s the things around it that you’re saying when you’re saying it right? So it’s Blah blah blah Angel Reese, or Angel Reese blah, blah, blah, so that’s when I went like ‘Yo, relax, enjoy the game.’ I love to banter with fans.”
There are some mixed views on the incident. Schultz described the fan as “cowardly,” knowing that Green can’t do anything in response to the disrespectful jabs.
However, Nick Wright, host of “What’s right with Nick Wright,” had a different perspective. “That was not over the line disrespect. I’m not a heckler. If you’re gonna heckle, it’s the type of heckling you should do. No profanity, there’s nothing truly personal or offensive. I thought it was kinda witty by that guy.”

As for whether Green should have approached the fan in the first place, Warriors coach Steve Kerr had no issues with Green’s conduct: “as long as it doesn’t escalate, it’s fine to go over and have a discussion.”
While opinions are mixed on it, Green clearly felt that, despite his welcoming fan banter, this particular fan had crossed a line with him and regarding Reese. The NBA has since warned him, but not fined the Warriors star, over the confrontation.
