The 2026 SEC schedule has officially been released as the conference prepares to implement an expansion to nine league games, joining the Big Ten and Big 12 Conferences, as part of the “more conference football, fewer complaints from television partners” movement.
With this change came a slight shake-up in scheduling for teams in the Southeast, and among these modifications are schedules that certainly outweigh others in the conference.
Here are the five most demanding schedules in the SEC next season:

5) Arkansas Razorbacks
Like most teams in the conference, Week 1 for the majority of the SEC is a scheduled “tune-up” game for the season, which, in this case, for the Razorbacks, is against North Alabama.
After a brief trip to Utah, the Razorbacks will host Georgia for their first SEC matchup of the season, which will be an excellent test for new head coach Ryan Silverfield. Arkansas will then travel to Texas A&M and Vanderbilt on the road before its bye during Week 8 .
This marks the start of an SEC gauntlet, featuring a home game against Missouri, a road game against Auburn, and a home game against South Carolina. Their season will be capped off with a road game against the Texas Longhorns and a home game against the LSU Tigers.
4) Missouri Tigers
Missouri’s tone for 2026 is set in Week 2 during the Tigers’ Border War against Kansas, marking the team’s first road game of the season.
Weeks 5 & 6 will feature a back-to-back home stand against the Florida Gators and Texas A&M, who are expected to feature some solid offenses next season, especially the Aggies’ and early Heisman favorite Marcel Reed.
Like the Razorbacks above them, Missouri will have a bye week during Week 8 before a tough SEC run to cap off the season.
Their Week 10 home game against Texas will be right in between matchups on the road in Arkansas and Georgia, which puts the Tigers to a big-time test before capping off the year with a second back-to-back home stand versus Kentucky and the Oklahoma Sooners, led by another early Heisman favorite, John Mateer.
3) LSU Tigers
The Tigers and new head coach Lane Kiffin will kick off the season by hosting Clemson for a potential ESPN College GameDay matchup before their conference games kick off, as LSU will travel to Ole Miss for its first conference game of the year.
They’ll host Texas A&M after what should be a drama-filled game, and two big wins like those could be a tone-setting for the next four weeks before a Week 9 bye week. LSU will host Alabama and Texas back-to-back in the bayou, making for the potential of two high-profile matchups among some of college football’s top programs.
As it currently stands, the Tigers will be the only team in the SEC to finish their season with consecutive road games, traveling to both Tennessee and Arkansas, making their final home game of the regular season in Week 11 against the Longhorns.
2) Auburn Tigers
Auburn was on the receiving end of what is probably the most challenging road matchups for any SEC team next season, creating an even more brutal uphill battle for a program that is coming off a 1-7 conference record in 2025.
Starting with a non-conference game in Atlanta against Baylor, the Tigers will then come home for three straight games, including two conference games against Florida and Vanderbilt, before embarking on their road schedule that begins in Tennessee in Week 5.
Coming off an early bye, Auburn will travel to Georgia before hosting LSU the following week. Their schedule then takes them to Mississippi for matchups with Ole Miss and Mississippi State, before concluding their season with the annual Iron Bowl, which Alabama will host in 2026.
1) Texas Longhorns
The Longhorns were given a treat by the SEC, facing only one conference road game until the start of November. However, that does not mean their schedule will just be a walk in the park as teams travel to Austin in 2026.
Week 2 features a high-profile matchup between Texas and visiting Ohio State Buckeyes, potentially serving as the Longhorns’ early test of the season to gauge how the year will go in the SEC.
Starting their eighth straight SEC matchup with the Red River Rivalry against the Oklahoma Sooners, Texas will have three straight home games before traveling to both Missouri and LSU in Weeks 10 & 11. Finishing off their year with a home game against Arkansas and an on-the-road in-state matchup against a talented Texas A&M team, which could be a game that separates Arch Manning and Marcel Reed in the 2027 NFL Draft.
