Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz has ended one of the most influential partnerships of his career, parting ways with coach Juan Carlos Ferrero after seven years. The sudden announcement sent shockwaves across the tennis fraternity, given the extraordinary success the duo achieved together, with Ferrero’s guidance playing a pivotal role in Alcaraz’s rapid rise to the summit.
Amid widespread speculation over the reason behind Alcaraz’s decision, recent reports have offered insight into what may have prompted the move. And that later drew widespread reactions from the fans.
Fans Livid Over Carlos Alcaraz’s Father’s Involvement in His Split With Juan Carlos Ferrero
Alcaraz has established himself as one of the most dominant forces on the tennis circuit, with his record speaking volumes. Under the guidance of Ferrero, who began coaching him at just 15, the Spaniard captured six Grand Slam titles, including two French Open titles, two Wimbledon Championships, and two US Open triumphs. Along the way, he amassed 24 tour-level titles, highlighted by eight Masters 1000 trophies.
This year alone, Alcaraz captured eight titles, including two Grand Slams at Roland Garros and the US Open, along with three Masters 1000 crowns. Every one of those milestones was achieved with Ferrero firmly in his corner. It is also worth recalling that in 2022, Ferrero guided a 19-year-old Alcaraz to the ATP Year-End No. 1 ranking, cementing his status as the youngest player in history to finish a season at the summit.
Alcaraz revealed the split online, admitting it was not easy to part ways with the guy who played a central role in fulfilling his childhood dreams.

“It is very difficult for me to write this post. After over seven years together, Juanki and I have decided to end our time together as coach and player. Thank you for making my childhood dreams a reality. We started on this road when I was just a boy and for all this time you have been with me on an incredible journey, on and off the court. I have enjoyed every step with you so much,” he wrote in Spanish.
Meanwhile, Ferrero conveyed similar feelings in a social media message, looking back on the years of hard work and progress they achieved together. The former World No. 1 thanked the current World No. 1 for his trust and for making him feel valued, while also admitting that he wished their partnership could have continued.
Although Alcaraz announced the split on Wednesday, recent reports indicate it had occurred even earlier due to the disagreements during contract negotiation, and that the financial terms were a point of contention, according to Radio Nacional de España.
Moreover, Alcaraz did not want the veteran coach removed from his team. However, another report highlighted significant disagreements between Ferrero and Alcaraz’s father, Carlos Alcaraz González, over the management of the player’s career.
The reports have sparked reactions from fans, many of whom criticized parental involvement in a player’s career decisions. One fan even cited Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal as examples to underline his point.
“Well, the parental involvement never worked well for too many male players. Even Djokovic didn’t do as well until he distanced his parents. Nadal’s uncle seemed to work OK, but players have to compete for themselves and not play for parents,” they wrote.

“Family in tennis is always interesting to talk about. How involved is too involved? When should your family let the pros take over? It’s a fine line between offering support and becoming a distraction… knowing when to step aside for the coaches…,” another chimed in.
“Hmmmmm, if this is true then the decision wasn’t made for ‘tennis reasons’ which isn’t good. But again, this breakup was inevitable; it just occurred more quickly than it was supposed to have transpired,” the third comment said.

Another fan expressed concern over parental control, emphasizing that while advice is fine, ultimate decisions should rest with Alcaraz.
“I think it’s really unhealthy for one’s parents to control key decisions like this. They can advise him, but it should always be Carlos’ decision that should matter in the end,” they commented.

“Alcaraz is an adult, and an adult who makes wild amount of $. this statement about his father makes him seem like a child who doesn’t have much influence, very odd,” a fan noted.
As things stand, Alcaraz has not confirmed whether he will appoint a new head coach ahead of the upcoming season. What has been confirmed, however, is that the 22-year-old will continue working with Samuel López, who joined his team last year. Notably, López and Ferrero were named ATP Coaches of the Year earlier this month, following Alcaraz’s stellar 2025 campaign.
