Latest on Packers Star’s Status After Scary Hit vs. Bears in Week 16

What was once a promising season for the Green Bay Packers seems to be falling apart at the seams. While injuries have constantly been a part of football, this has been a particularly brutal year for this roster. After the wide receiver corps was decimated early in the year, they lost their most consistent target in Tucker Kraft.

As the team soldiered on, last week brought a season-ending torn ACL to Micah Parsons. That put a serious damper on their expectations for the year. But those hopes may have evaporated altogether as Jordan Love went down with an injury in Week 16.

What Happened to Jordan Love?

In a game with massive playoff implications, as it held the opportunity to decide the outright winner of the NFC North, the 9-4-1 Packers faced the division-leading 10-4 Chicago Bears.

Just two weeks ago, the two sides had battled in an instant classic that came down to a game-sealing interception in the end zone for Green Bay. As a result, expectations were high going into their Week 16 encounter.

Unfortunately, it turned into a brutal start for the visiting team early in the game. Blitzed in the second quarter, Love was the recipient of a direct hit to the head in a face mask collision that resulted in a roughing the passer penalty.

Down on the field immediately, he had to be taken off the field to check for a concussion soon after, as Malik Willis checked into the game on his behalf. Soon after, disappointing news emerged from the sidelines as Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reported on X, “Jordan Love is walking to the locker room with a member of the medical staff.”

In the game, he was already up to 77 passing yards as he completed seven of 13 passing attempts to allow the Packers to add three points on the board early in the game. It continued his stretch of strong play that had made this his best season yet.

His highest ranking on PFSN’s QB Impact, as he stood at third place in the league, coincided with a highly efficient season, where he’s averaging 236 yards per game while completing 66.4% of his passes and recording 23 touchdowns against just six interceptions for his second-best passer rating since he became a starter at 101.9.

As the teams returned from the halftime break, though, fans in Green Bay got the unfortunate development from Adam Schefter, who reported, “QB Jordan Love has been ruled out with a concussion.”

As a result, their hopes for this game were going to rely solely on Willis to somehow carry them to a victory.

Fantasy Impact of Love’s Injury

This game was off to a slow start already. If Love is indeed ruled out with a concussion, that will only slow things down more.

We’ve seen what the Packers do on offense with Malik Willis. They completely shift to a play style that suits the backup, utilizing read options, designed QB runs, and limiting pass plays. This would be very bad news for the fantasy outlooks for all Packers pass catchers.

It could potentially lead to more volume for Josh Jacobs, but the Packers already don’t want to overwork him as he is gutting through a lingering knee injury. If Love can’t go next week, no Packers pass catchers will be startable.
