The moment grew even more memorable when both superstars openly shared their admiration for one another.

Few names command the kind of global recognition these two do. The Serb has dominated the tennis landscape for years, boasting 101 tour titles, a reign as World No. 1, and a rare Career Golden Slam.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, stands as one of football’s most decorated figures, with over 35 trophies, five Ballon d’Or awards, four European Golden Shoes, five Champions League titles, and significant international triumphs with Portugal, including the Euro 2016 and Nations League victories in 2019 and 2025.

In recognition of his extraordinary achievements and global influence, Djokovic was recently honored at the Globe Soccer Awards. Fittingly, the award was presented by  Ronaldo himself.

“Obviously, receiving the award from another sporting legend is a dream come true. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting this. I am a big fan of football, I came here to obviously celebrate the incredible year that all the football stars were having. I was caught off guard but in a positive way. So I couldn’t be happier,” Novak Djokovic said upon receiving the award.

When asked what he observes from Djokovic, Ronaldo explained that the Serb embodies longevity, discipline, and consistency, serving as a powerful example across generations.

“I think it is, I don’t want to speak so much, I prefer that I (don’t) speak, but for me it is his example. When you have people as an example, he speaks the words coming by himself. So for me (he is an) example, longevity. We have a similar story. So I think he deserve, because he is a great example for this generation, all generations, the generation going to come. So he deserves this,” he said.

“We go back a long time. When he was playing in Real Madrid, he would be coming to watch the tournament in Madrid and obviously for us, every time he showed up, it would be an added pressure, but also an inspiration to try to do our best. He was ruling the world at that time and he still keeps on going,” he said.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion later expressed his gratitude to the soccer legend for the compliments and for serving as a source of inspiration.

“So, you know, I’m very thankful to hear these words from him and also thankful to call him friend and someone that really inspires me as well. Not to repeat his words, but it’s really same way for me,” he added.

Djokovic now turns his attention to the upcoming season, having confirmed his participation in the Adelaide International, a key lead-up to the first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open. The Serb enters the tournament with confidence, having previously claimed the title in 2007 and 2023.
