Will Patriots Stars Stefon Diggs, Christian Barmore Be Suspended for the Playoffs? NFL Announces Latest on Their Status

As the New England Patriots gear up for the postseason, Stefon Diggs and Christian Barmore are reportedly facing separate criminal charges stemming from unrelated incidents. Court filings indicate Diggs has sought to seal documents and reschedule a Jan. 23 arraignment, while Barmore is reportedly set to be arraigned on Feb. 3. The Patriots have acknowledged both situations and stated that they are cooperating, with the NFL noting that the cases fall under the Personal Conduct Policy.

Both players are reportedly charged in separate cases: Diggs with felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault from an alleged Dec. 2 incident; Barmore with misdemeanor assault and battery from an alleged Aug. 8 incident. Team and league statements confirm awareness and ongoing review, with both matters allegedly part of active legal processes.

What Did Stefon Diggs Do? Charges Explained

Diggs is reportedly charged with felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault tied to an alleged Dec. 2 incident; a motion hearing in Dedham District Court addressed impounding court documents and potentially moving his arraignment from Jan. 23 to March.

The Patriots released a statement, saying: “The New England Patriots are aware of the accusations that have been made regarding Stefon Diggs. Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We support Stefon. We will continue to gather information and will cooperate.”

Diggs’s attorney has reportedly argued that the allegations are “unsubstantiated” and sought to seal the case due to potential prejudicial publicity. Separately, local coverage reported a disclosed financial offer allegedly discussed in court to resolve the dispute. The NFL said it is “aware of the matter” and has “no further comment at this time.”

What Did Christian Barmore Do? Charges Explained

Barmore is reportedly facing a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery on a household/family member from an alleged Aug. 8 incident, with charges filed Dec. 16 and an arraignment reportedly set for Feb. 3.

Charging documents describe alleged conduct that included grabbing a phone, throwing the woman to the floor, and grabbing her by the shirt area near the neck; the woman reportedly provided photos of bruises.

Barmore’s attorney said, “We are confident that the evidence will demonstrate that no criminal conduct took place.” The Patriots said they “were made aware at the time of the incident and informed the NFL in a timely manner,” adding, “The matter remains part of an ongoing legal process. We will respect that process, continue to monitor the situation closely, as we have over the past few months, and cooperate fully with the league.”

Head coach Mike Vrabel said, “Christian’s away with an illness today… I haven’t heard anything that would keep either player from the game.”

The NFL said both matters are allegedly under Personal Conduct Policy review and that both players are eligible to play “at this time,” noting Commissioner Exempt List consideration can follow “formal charges in the form of an indictment by a grand jury, the filing of charges by a prosecutor, or an arraignment in a criminal court.”

When asked about the separate incidents and how they affect his players’ future, Vrabel said, “These are allegations… I’m confident that we’ll focus on the Dolphins and those two individuals that you mentioned will be able to handle the ongoing legal process.”

As of Wednesday, no discipline has been announced. Team and league statements indicate that monitoring and cooperation are ongoing, and roster status remains unchanged pending court proceedings and any future NFL updates.
