Ben Shelton and his girlfriend, Trinity Rodman, were seen in an adorable interaction courtside during the 2025 Wimbledon Championships. Their interaction came after a controversial call by the chair umpire ended the World No. 10’s match at the London Major.
Shelton and Rodman confirmed their relationship earlier this year, in March 2025. Rodman is a professional soccer player who plays as a forward for the United States national team and the Washington Spirit, which competes in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).

Shelton, seeded 10th at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships, began his campaign with a strong performance. He defeated qualifier Alex Bolt in the first round in straight sets, with a score of 6-4, 7-6(1), 7-6(4). He then faced Rinky Hijikata in the second round, winning the first two sets 6-2, 7-5.
However, the match took an unexpected turn when the chair umpire suspended play due to poor lighting conditions, with the score at 5-4 in the third set and Shelton set to serve for the game. As a result of this call, Shelton and Hijikata will need to return the following day, Friday, Jul. 4, 2025, to complete their match.
Interestingly, after consultation with his team and family members who were sitting courtside, Shelton had suggested that the match be postponed before the players began the third set.
He approached the courtside area, expressing his frustration over the match continuing. What stood out to many was Rodman affectionately watching the 22-year-old.

Following the eventual suspension at a contentious point in the match, a visibly frustrated Shelton confronted the chair umpire to seek clarification on the decision. He was also seen discussing the incident with a match official.

Leading up to the 2025 Wimbledon Championships, Shelton competed at the 2025 Mallorca Championships. He was the top seed at the tournament and began his campaign in the second round after receiving a first-round bye. He faced fellow American Learner Tien in his opening match and lost 6-4, 7-6(2).

If Shelton secures victory in his second-round match against Hijikata — a scenario that appears highly probable — then he will advance to face either Gaël Monfils or the lucky loser Márton Fucsovics in the third round of the 2025 Wimbledon Championship.
Monfils triumphed over his compatriot and 18th seed Ugo Humbert in the first round, winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-7(5), 7-5, 6-2. He then faced Fucsovics in the second round, but their match was suspended before the fifth set due to bad light, with the score standing at 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-7(5), 0-0.
Meanwhile, Fucsovics earned his spot in the main draw at the London Major as a lucky loser after Borna Ćorić withdrew. At the qualifiers, he defeated Jurij Rodionov 6-4, 6-3 and Zachary Svajda 7-6(5), 6-3, before falling to Chris Rodesch 3-6, 4-6, 6-0, 7-6(4).
In the main draw, Fucsovics overcame Aleksandar Kovacevic 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 in the first round to advance to the second, where he faced Monfils, before their match was suspended.
Shelton and Monfils have previously met once on the ATP Tour, during the fourth round of the 2025 Australian Open, where Shelton emerged victorious with a score of 7-6(3), 6-7(3), 7-6(2), 1-0 (retired). Should they meet again in the third round at Wimbledon, it will be their second time competing against one another.
On the other hand, Shelton and Fucsovics have never faced each other on the ATP Tour, with their potential third-round match at the grass-court Grand Slam marking their maiden clash against each other.
