NHL Trade Rumors: Blackhawks, Leafs, Devils Among Contenders For $25 Million Winger

As NHL teams continue shaping their rosters for the 2025–26 season, the trade market remains active, and one name quietly gaining traction is Seattle Kraken forward Jared McCann.

With consistent scoring numbers, a manageable contract, and two years left on his deal, McCann is becoming one of the more intriguing names in offseason trade discussions. While nothing is imminent, insider David Pagnotta has reported that Seattle is open to moving the 29-year-old if the right offer comes along, and that’s got several teams in need of top-six help paying close attention.

Kraken Reportedly Willing to Move Jared McCann

The Seattle Kraken are leaving the door open this summer, and forward Jared McCann could be one of the most valuable players to walk through it.

According to NHL insider David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, McCann remains on the radar of teams looking to boost their offensive depth. He’s also listed at No. 20 on TFP’s Summer Trade Watch List. While the Kraken aren’t actively shopping McCann, Pagnotta says they’re open to moving him if the right deal is presented.

“His name started to pop up around the trade deadline; he’s still available,” Pagnotta said. “He’s somebody that we’ve been hearing Seattle is also open to moving.”

McCann has quietly become one of the league’s more reliable scorers since joining Seattle in their inaugural 2021–22 season. Over the last four seasons, he has consistently hit the 20-goal mark and had a breakout 2022–23 campaign, scoring 40 goals and 70 points. He followed that with another strong performance last season, topping 60 points yet again. That kind of scoring consistency, paired with a $5 million annual cap hit through 2026, makes him a very attractive trade option, especially in a flat-cap environment.

There are a few complicating factors. McCann holds a 10-team no-trade list, giving him some control over where he could land. But that hasn’t stopped teams from expressing interest. According to early reports, the Chicago Blackhawks, New Jersey Devils, and Toronto Maple Leafs are among the clubs exploring ways to add scoring to their top six, and McCann could fit the mold.

For the Blackhawks, adding a proven scorer like McCann would offer immediate help for Connor Bedard as the young franchise centerpiece continues to develop. In New Jersey, McCann’s versatility and scoring touch could bring balance to a roster that’s been chasing consistency. And in Toronto, where cap space is always tight, McCann’s contract could be a rare opportunity to get a 60-point player without breaking the bank.

From Seattle’s perspective, the Kraken appear to be assessing their long-term direction. After a step back last season following their 2023 playoff appearance, there may be an interest in reshaping the roster and stockpiling assets or younger players. Trading McCann now, while his value is high, could open the door for other roster moves and cap flexibility.

Of course, Seattle doesn’t need to move McCann. With two years left on his deal and no massive financial pressure, they can afford to be selective and wait for the right return. But given the steady rise in league-wide demand for cost-effective goal scorers, especially those with playoff experience and positional flexibility, McCann’s name could keep popping up as one of the most logical trade targets as the offseason progresses.

Whether or not a deal gets done in the coming weeks, the situation is one to watch closely, especially as teams push to finalize their top-six forward groups heading into training camp.
