Jannik Sinner recently spoke about his maiden Wimbledon title win following a tumultuous year he had both on and off the court. The World No. 1 began the 2025 season by defending his title at the Australian Open, but his season took an unsavory turn when he had to serve a three-month doping suspension after testing positive twice for clostebol in March 2024.
Sinner’s victory at Wimbledon marks his first Grand Slam title on grass and his fourth Major title overall.

Entering the 2025 Wimbledon Championships as the top seed, Sinner defeated Luca Nardi, Aleksandar Vukic, Pedro Martínez, 19th seed Grigor Dimitrov, 10th seed Ben Shelton, and sixth seed Novak Djokovic to secure his place in the championship match against the second-seeded Carlos Alcaraz.
In the final, Sinner lost the first set 4-6 but made a comeback, ultimately winning the match with a scoreline of 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. This victory marked his fifth win against Alcaraz in their 13 encounters on the ATP Tour.
During the post-match press conference, Sinner expressed that winning the Wimbledon title was “emotional” for himself and those close to him who have witnessed his struggles, particularly in light of the doping scandal.
“Yeah, I’m very emotional. Even if I don’t cry, it feels emotional because only me and the people who are close to me know exactly what we have been through on and off the court. And it has been everything except easy,” Sinner said.
The World No. 1 mentioned that the win was the collaborative effort with his team, who pushed him to intensify his practice sessions to ensure he was fully match-ready.
“We’ve tried to push every practice session, even when I was struggling at times, mentally, maybe even more in practice sessions, because I feel like when I play the match, I can switch off and then just play. And I believe that this helped me a lot,” he continued.
Sinner stated that sharing his Wimbledon win with his parents, Hanspeter and Siglinde, his brother Mark, and his team has been an “amazing feeling” for him.
“To share this moment with my family, my whole family is here. It’s the most amazing thing that could have happened to me. In Paris, it was only my mom, and it was still just an amazing feeling. Here, my dad, my brother, my mom, too, and the whole team, not only from my coach’s perspective, but everyone who works for me, has been here. It has been an amazing feeling,” Sinner added.

During the trophy presentation ceremony following his victory over Alcaraz in the 2025 Wimbledon Championships final, Sinner expressed that it was an “emotional” win. He stated that the triumph was special for him, as it came on the heels of his defeat to the Spaniard in the 2025 French Open final.
“It’s mostly emotional, because I had a very tough loss in Paris. But at the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter how you win or how you lose at important tournaments, you just have to understand what you did wrong and try to work on that, and that’s exactly what we did,” Sinner said.
The World No. 1 reflected on the journey leading to his Wimbledon success, mentioning that he and his team addressed the shortcomings that contributed to his loss in Paris. He said that this focused effort was a key factor that enabled him to secure his maiden Wimbledon title.
“We tried to accept the loss and just kept working. This is for sure one of the reasons I am holding this trophy here. I am just so grateful that I am healthy and have great people around me, and holding this trophy means a lot,” he added.
Looking ahead, Sinner is set to begin his hard-court season at the 2025 Canadian Open, which will take place from Jul. 27 to Aug. 7, 2025, at Sobeys Stadium in Toronto. Along with him, top players such as Alcaraz, Taylor Fritz, Jack Draper, Novak Djokovic, and Daniil Medvedev, among others, will compete at this tournament.
In 2023, Sinner defeated Matteo Berrettini, Andy Murray, Gaël Monfils, Tommy Paul, and, ultimately, Alex de Minaur in the final to win the Canadian Open, his first ATP 1000 title.
