The echoes of tennis history rang loud at Centre Court on Sunday. Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz delivered another classic, their rivalry now drawing comparisons to the legendary battles between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.
But it wasn’t just the tennis that felt familiar. The photos tell a story that spans generations.
Photographic Echoes of Federer-Nadal Rivalry Emerge After Sinner-Alcaraz Wimbledon Final
Sinner and Alcaraz wrote yet another chapter of their on-court rivalry at the Wimbledon final on Sunday. Alcaraz started strong, winning the first set 6-4. However, with his strong ground strokes and powerful serves, Sinner mounted a comeback, winning the next three sets 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 to win his first Grand Slam on grass. The victory also denied Alcaraz from achieving a rare three-peat at SW19.
This win was particularly sweet for Sinner, who snapped a five-match losing streak against the Spaniard. The victory came nearly a month after their previous clash in the French Open final, where Alcaraz fought back from two sets down to win.
While the 22-year-old may lead 8-5 overall, Sinner remains unbeaten against him at Wimbledon with a 2-0 record.

The dynamic mirrors what happened between Nadal and Federer during their legendary rivalry. The duo met 40 times on tour, and Nadal held a convincing 24-16 lead, including a 10-4 edge in Grand Slams.
However, Federer proved too strong on grass, leading Nadal 3-1 in their head-to-head at the All England Club. Nadal’s only win over the Swiss at Wimbledon came at the 2008 final, which lasted four hours and 48 minutes. Their last Wimbledon meeting came in the 2019 semifinals, where Federer prevailed. Alcaraz faced Sinner in the final, which the Italian won.
The parallels became even more striking when fans noticed the visual similarities. A recent post on X highlighted a striking parallel between the two pairs walking onto Centre Court with their kits during their respective editions of Wimbledon.

Another post on X compared the post-match camaraderie between Sinner and Alcaraz at the 2025 Wimbledon final to that of Nadal and Federer in 2007. While Alcaraz and his idol Nadal were seen holding the runner-up salver on opposite sides of the frame, Federer shook hands with the coveted trophy.

The path to victory wasn’t easy for Sinner. He found himself in trouble during the fourth round, trailing Grigor Dimitrov 6-3, 7-5, 2-2, before the Bulgarian retired in the third set due to a pectoral injury.
What Did Alcaraz Say About His Rivalry With Sinner?
Following the final, Alcaraz opened up about what makes their rivalry special. In his press conference after the Wimbledon final, Alcaraz expressed joy over his rivalry with Sinner, calling it great for tennis. The World No. 2 also believes their matches reach a uniquely high level, unmatched by any other player on tour.
“I am just really happy about having this rivalry with him. I think it’s great for us and it is great for the tennis. Everytime we play against each other, I think our level is really high. I think, we don’t watch a level like this if I’m honest with you. I don’t see any player playing against each other, having the same level that we’re playing when we face each other,” he said.
