Grigor Dimitrov made headlines in May after officially confirming his relationship with renowned Mexican actress and singer Eiza González. While González often draws attention for her glamorous presence, she caught the eye of a former tennis pro at Wimbledon, although for an amusing reason. The former player later shared more details about the incident.

Former German WTA player Andrea Petkovic highlighted Dimitrov’s promising run at SW19 and the unexpected surge of finalist Amanda Anisimova in her recent Substack blog. The 37-year-old admitted remembering Anisimova’s cross-court winner through which she ousted World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinal, along with Dimitrov’s serve and volley.
“With the years, I have gotten better at appreciating moments rather than entire narratives (for a mind poisoned by novel reading not an easy thing to shake). I choose to remember Amanda’s forehand cross court winner on match point against Aryna Sabalenka. I choose to remember Grigor’s perfect serve-and-volley execution,” she wrote.
In an amusing revelation, Petkovic recalled noticing González’s jawline while standing beside her in a smoothie line, admitting she nearly fainted afterward.
“And most of all, I choose to remember Grigor’s girlfriend, Eiza Gonzalez’s perfect jawline. Seriously, she stood next to me in line waiting for a smoothie, and I nearly fainted,” she added.
González, known for her role in the Argentine Nickelodeon teen sitcom Sueña Conmigo, was first spotted in Dimitrov’s player box at the Madrid Open, fueling speculation about their relationship. The rumors were put to rest when the duo appeared together at the Women in Cinema Gala in Cannes this May.
González Shared Heartfelt Message After Dimitrov Was Forced To Retire at Wimbledon
Dimitrov’s abrupt exit from Wimbledon was especially disheartening, given how well he was playing. He had taken control of the match against Sinner, winning the first two sets 6-3, 7-5, and leading 2-0 in the third. Just as it seemed he was on the verge of eliminating the World No. 1, Dimitrov suddenly clutched his right pectoral muscle and fell. After taking a medical timeout, he was ultimately forced to retire.
A sight we never want to see.

In the wake of his unfortunate retirement from the tournament, González stood by her partner and shared an emotional yet uplifting message on her Instagram story.
“Love of my life. I couldn’t be more proud of you. You’re are BEYOND outstanding, This is just a moment that will pass and will make you even stronger. But watching you today alongside the world was a reminder of who YOU are. You’re a winner. We all saw it. And you’ll do it again. I love you @grigordimitrov,” she wrote.
Dimitrov has won nine ATP titles in his career and currently stands at No. 21 in the ATP rankings. The 34-year-old also holds a 17–11 record for the 2025 season.
