Deion Sanders’ future at Colorado hangs in the balance as Coach Prime’s ongoing health battles spark intense speculation about his potential departure from the program. The Pro Football Hall of Famer’s extended absence from key team activities has left Buffaloes fans wondering if their high-profile coach might be planning an exit strategy, especially with both his sons now headed to the NFL.

Why Are Deion Sanders’ Health Struggles Creating Exit Speculation?
As questions swirl about Sanders’ future with Colorado football, concerns about the coach’s long-standing health struggles are once again drawing attention. A resurfaced video from two years ago shows Sanders reflecting on his serious medical battles.
“I’ve never not trusted God,” Sanders said during an appearance on Thee Pregame Network. “Throughout my whole journey of losing two toes, and the sides of my leg cut out, right now. I’ve trusted God through that whole process. I’ve never flinched and said ‘God, why me?’ And questioned anything that transpired.”
Sanders, 57, had two toes amputated in 2021 while coaching at Jackson State. He has also faced ongoing complications due to poor circulation in his left foot. Later, in a video, doctors expressed concern that he could potentially lose his left foot due to insufficient blood flow.
“I have a mission. I have a calling. I have a purpose. And God has a plan for me,” Sanders said in that video. “I can still conclude my plan. And I can still manifest the plan with one foot. That ain’t going to stop His purpose.”
Sanders also joked about the situation, wondering aloud what kind of prosthetic he might receive. “They will find me a prosthetic, and I’ll get that 2025 foot, and whoooo…whoo…still hit that dance,” he said.
His medical history has become a focal point among fans debating his future. Toe amputation has also taken central stage in the current ongoing speculations among fans, but not without sarcasm.
“Deion is leaving all the losers that remain at Colorado. He’ll be spending time in Cleveland with shedeur while usurping power from Kevin stefanski so he can ultimately weasel his way to Browns head coach. And he’s getting another toe amputated.”
“He won’t coach this year I’d bet. No other reason to have a press conference about his health,” another quipped.
His health has remained a focal point this offseason. Last month, reports emerged that the Pro Football Hall of Famer was dealing with an undisclosed illness, sidelining him temporarily.
What Will Monday’s Medical Press Conference Reveal?
According to a university release, a press conference featuring Sanders and his medical team is scheduled for Monday. Representatives from CU Anschutz and UC Health are expected to join Sanders and share “general and team updates.”
The event follows weeks of uncertainty surrounding Sanders’ health and limited presence during Colorado’s offseason workouts.

Health concerns have sidelined Sanders from key spring and summer activities, including youth football camps, USA Today reported in June. While he did appear at the Big 12 Media Days earlier this month, Sanders acknowledged that he was still not fully recovered.
“I’m already back,” Sanders said on July 9. “I’m here today. I’m handling my responsibilities. So, I look forward to it. I can’t wait.”
However, his recovery appeared incomplete. In a video posted by his son Deion Sanders Jr. on July 20, Sanders added,
“You know I’m still going through something. . . . I ain’t all the way recovered.”
Fans have speculated about his future, with some comparing the situation to former coach Urban Meyer’s unexpected exits. One fan commented,
“Done in Colorado. Take the year, do TV. Wait for a big time job opening.”
If D pulls off an Urban Meyer, cant even hate it. Why? Because Urban Meyer did it 2x.

Another said, “Bro pulling an Urban Meyer now that the kids are gone.”
This is where he “steps away” from Colorado now that the kids are gone lol

The timing has raised eyebrows among Colorado supporters. With both Shedeur and Shilo Sanders and Travis Hunter now preparing for NFL careers, some wonder if Coach Prime’s motivation to remain in Boulder has diminished. Sanders has spent much of this offseason recovering at his ranch in Texas.
Monday’s press conference promises to provide clarity on both Sanders’ health status and his commitment to the Colorado program heading into the 2025-26 season.
