Coco Gauff expressed her disappointment after suffering a defeat in her first grass court match of the year at the 2025 Berlin Tennis Open since winning her second Grand Slam title at the 2025 French Open.
The World No. 2 entered the WTA 500 tournament in Berlin with high hopes after a successful clay-court season, where she advanced to the finals of the Madrid Open and the Italian Open, finishing as the runner-up against Aryna Sabalenka and Paolini, respectively.
At the 2025 French Open, Gauff overcame Sabalenka in the final, claiming her second singles Grand Slam title and her third Major title overall.

In Berlin, Gauff was seeded second and began her tournament in the second round after receiving a first-round bye. She faced qualifier Wang Xinyu in her opening match and lost in straight sets, with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-3.
Following her defeat, Gauff shared a series of photos from her match on her Instagram handle, reflecting on her struggle to adapt her game from clay to grass.
The World No. 2 expressed her disappointment at not being able to secure a victory and noted that she had hoped to showcase her new kit from her New Balance x Miu Miu collaboration more prominently during the tournament, but it was not meant to be.
“it was a tough one today but happy to be back on court tried my best to adjust with the quick turnaround but it wasn’t enough. as always, i’m learning as I go so I hope to do better next time.thank you berlin for the short but sweet visit, I’ll come back stronger next year and I wish I could give this kit some more screen time as it’s definitely one of my favs but i’m excited to get some more practices in to be ready for wimbledon see you guys soon!” Gauff captioned her Instagram post.
Last year, Gauff had a strong showing in Berlin, reaching the semifinals before being eliminated by the eventual champion, Jessica Pegula.
Coco Gauff Will Next Compete at the Wimbledon Championships 2025
Following the conclusion of her campaign at the 2025 Berlin Tennis Open, Gauff will next compete at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships.
The grass court Major is scheduled from Jun. 30 to July 13, 2025, at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London. The World No. 2’s best result there has been reaching the fourth round on three occasions: in 2019, 2021, and 2024.
Gauff made her Grand Slam main draw debut at Wimbledon in 2019, securing her spot after winning her matches in the qualifiers. In the first round, she caused a stunning upset when she defeated five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams.
The 21-year-old then overcame Magdaléna Rybáriková and Polona Hercog in the second and third rounds, respectively, before being eliminated by the eventual champion, Simona Halep, in the fourth round.
During the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, Gauff triumphed over Francesca Jones, Elena Vesnina, and Kaja Juvan in the first three rounds. Her run ended in the fourth round when she lost to Angelique Kerber. Last year, Gauff registered wins over Caroline Dolehide, Anca Todoni, and Sonay Kartal before falling to Emma Navarro in the fourth round.
In doubles, Gauff’s best performance at Wimbledon came in 2024 when she reached the quarterfinals alongside her partner, Jessica Pegula.
The duo began their campaign by defeating the Ukrainian pair of Anhelina Kalinina and Dayana Yastremska in the first round, followed by victories over Anna Danilina and Xu Yifan and Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini in the second and third rounds, respectively. In the quarterfinals, Gauff and Pegula lost to the top-seeded pair of Hsieh Su-wei and Elise Mertens.
