Sara Errani shares her enthusiasm for padel and encourages Alcaraz to explore the sport

Sara Errani, fresh off a triumphant run at Roland Garros where she clinched two titles, has turned heads once again—not on the clay courts, but on the padel court. Just two days after her Grand Slam victories, the 38-year-old Italian made her debut at the BNL Italy Major Premier Padel in Rome, signaling a bold new chapter in her athletic journey.

Errani’s passion for padel isn’t a passing curiosity. She revealed that she plays nearly every day and always travels with her padel racket, crediting the sport with enhancing her physicality and even benefiting her tennis game. “Instead of going on vacation, I came here to play,” she said, underscoring her commitment and love for competition.

In an interview with Spanish broadcaster Antena 3, Errani was asked about the possibility of Carlos Alcaraz, the rising star of men’s tennis, trying his hand at padel. Her response was both playful and sincere: “Why not? He has the touch and the intelligence to improve.” With that, she extended an open invitation to Alcaraz, suggesting that his skills could translate well to the fast-growing sport.

Errani’s comments come at a time when padel is gaining momentum globally, with increasing calls for its inclusion in the Olympic Games. Her high-profile participation and vocal support could help elevate the sport’s visibility and legitimacy.

As Errani continues to blur the lines between tennis and padel, her energy and openness to new challenges serve as a reminder that athletic evolution doesn’t have to follow a single path. Whether Alcaraz takes up the offer remains to be seen, but the door is wide open—and the court is waiting.
