The last rankings update before Wimbledon, factoring in “week before major” tournaments that often produce surprise champions and finalists.
And so it was with Eastbourne which, downgraded from a WTA 500 down to a 250 this year, didn’t have the same field and produced an unseeded player and a qualifier in the final.
So both Maya Joint and Alexandra Eala made moves.
Iga Swiatek (POL): No. 8 =============> No. 4 (Swiatek is still titleless, and it’s been awhile. But she makes the final at the WTA 500 in Bad Homburg, and halves her ranking to move up to No. 4 – and No. 3 in the race to the finals)(Polina Kudermetova).

Linda Noskova (CZE): No. 30 =============> No. 27 (Noskova, who is still on 20, has sort of been treading water this season. But that’s better than going backwards and her semifinal effort in Bad Homburg moves her inside the top 30 again).
Maya Joint (AUS): No. 51 =============> No. 41 (The 19-year-old Aussie wins her second career WTA title at Eastbourne, saving four match points along the way. A year ago, she was ranked No. 179. So it’s been a rocket rise).

Alexandra Eala (PHI): No. 74 =============> No. 56 (Eala was disappointed at her first Roland Garros. But she has reason for optimism for her first Wimbledon after coming SO close to her first WTA title at Eastbourne, coming out of the qualifying. As it is, she’s at a new career high and just about 100 points out of a top-50 debut).
Maria Sakkari (GRE): No. 85 =============> No. 77 (It’s still a long way from where she should be. But at least the ranking is heading back in the right direction after Sakkari won a round in Bad Homburg as a wild card).

Victoria Azarenka (BLR): No. 105 =============> No. 87 (Azarenka’s drop out of the top 100 didn’t las long as she qualified and won a round in Bad Homburg, and makes a nice little jump).
Varvara Gracheva (FRA): No. 111 =============> No. 92 (The Russian-turned-Frenchwoman also gets back into the top 100 after qualifying and making the semis in Eastbourne).
Clervie Ngounoue (USA): No. 224 =============> No. 195 (The 18-year-old former junior Wimbledon champion leaps into the top 200 with a final at the ITF in Palma Del Rio. If she wins the final on Sunday night, she would rise to No. 187).

Amanda Anisimova (USA) (No. 12)
McCartney Kessler (USA) (No. 30)
Rebecca Sramkova (SVK) (No. 34)
Maya Joint (AUS) (No. 41)
Alexandra Eala (PHI) (No. 56)
Joanna Garland (TPE) (No. 142)
Clervie Ngounoue (USA) (No. 195 – No. 187)

Madison Keys (USA): No. 6 =============> No. 8 (Keys made the semis at Eastbourne last year, but didn’t defend those points. So she drops a couple of spots).
Diana Shnaider (RUS): No. 12 =============> No. 15 (Shnaider, too, drops after she lost in the first round of Bad Homburg last week. A year ago, she won it. It’s been a follow-up season full of ups and downs).

Donna Vekic (CRO): No. 22 =============> No. 25 (Vekic made the final in Bad Homburg a year ago, but lost in the second round this year. She also has a Wimbledon semifinal coming up to defend, which a huge thing. Without those 780 points, she would drop all the way down to well outside the top 50).
Leylah Fernandez (CAN): No. 29 =============> No. 38 (Fernandez has hung in there in seeding range at the bigger events. But she made the final at Eastbourne a year ago, when it was a 500. And he lost in the second round in Bad Homburg this year. So she drops way down and had Monday’s ranking been used, would not have been seeded at Wimbledon. It’s as low as she’s been since Feb. 2024).
Anna Blinkova (RUS): No. 69 =============> No. 78 (Blinkova made the quarterfinals in Eastbourne. But after making the quarterfinals at Bad Homburg last year – which is a 500 – she drops).

Viktoriya Tomova (BUL): No. 81 =============> No. 111 (Tough drop out of the top 100 for the Bulgarian, who went from the qualifying to the semifinals in Bad Homburg last year but lost in the first round at Eastbourne this year).
Anhelina Kalinina (KAZ): No. 107 =============> No. 117 (Kalinina missed after qualiying and winning a round a year ago and she’s also missing Wimbledon – the only player who withdrew before the event on the women’s side. On the plus side, she lost in the first round last year to Elina Avanesyan, so it won’t hurt much).
Harriet Dart (GBR): No. 124 =============> No. 152 (Dart lost in the first round of Eastbourne, after making the quarterfinals a year ago following wins over Marie Bouzkova and Sofia Kenin)

Caroline Wozniacki (DEN): No. 138 =============> No. 167 (Hadn’t realized Wozniacki, who is quite pregnant with her third child and was at Roland Garros doing commentary, was still in the rankings. But she actually still has a decent one. She drops her points from a quarterfinal in Bad Homburg a year ago. She will drop third-round points from Wimbledon in a few weeks).
