Dominic Calvert-Lewin has become an unlikely hero for Leeds United in front of goal this season.
On his arrival in the summer, many at Elland Road would have been worried about his long-standing injury issues, alongside his frequent barren patches in front of goal.
Indeed, his numbers across the 2024/25 season saw him bag just three Premier League goals, while being absent from 15 matches due to recurring injury battles.
Yet, they did not need to be plagued with worry, after all, with the ex-Everton striker already up to nine goals for the season, as he continues to stick out as Daniel Farke’s main focal point up top.
The German looks to be on the hunt for reinforcements in attack, though, as the Premier League newcomers attempt to secure more and more invaluable wins, to ensure they don’t slip straight back down to the Championship.
Leeds make approach for EFL striker
Calvert-Lewin has even scooped up the prized accolade of being December’s Player of the Month in the Premier League for his red-hot form.
Still, Leeds look to be prioritising attacking additions this month, with Jorgen Strand Larsen allegedly remaining on their radar from basement side Wolverhampton Wanderers, holding ‘significant interest’ in the £40m-rated Norwegian.
Alongside looking at Premier League proven talents, Leeds might well dip their toes into the EFL market for some gems of the future, with Football Insider revealing that both the Whites and Crystal Palace have held talks over Derby County striker Patrick Agyemang, with approaches made by the top-flight pair.
The report reveals that the 25-year-old’s blistering form in the Championship has caught the eye of these suitors, with the Rams placing a hefty £20m price tag above the breakout American’s head, subsequently.
With Leeds noted as being keen on attacking reinforcements, Agyemang could be just the striker addition they desire, as Farke potentially wins a new Josh Sargent-style figure in the Connecticut-born machine.
Why Agyemang can be Farke’s new Sargent
Farke would only cross paths with Sargent briefly when in charge of Norwich City, with the American centre-forward only featuring 11 times under the German in Norfolk.
An uninspiring two goals would come his way under Farke, before he would eventually be transformed into a feared goal threat, donning Norwich yellow and green under the regimes that came after the 49-year-old, with the Missouri-born menace now up to 56 goals from 157 appearances at Carrow Road.
He has since tried to bring the “tremendous” EFL goalscorer – as journalist Graeme Bailey has described him – to Leeds, but no such move has ever come to fruition.
While there is an obvious geographical connection that binds them together, Agyemang could well end up being the Sargent-style project Farke craves, when considering the 25-year-old’s own explosive goalscoring exploits as an imposing, but skilful attacker, in the Championship.
Like Sargent, who comes in at a striking 6-foot-1 frame, the ex-Charlotte FC striker comes in at an equally imposing 6-foot-4, with headers such as the one powered home against Blackburn Rovers earlier in the season, made to look easy to convert, as a result.
But, he’s far from a one-trick pony, with his Derby manager, John Eustace, hailing him as a “special” talent for the wide array of different finishes he can offer, which has seen him collect a very impressive seven strikes this season in the Championship effortlessly.
Coincidentally, Sargent is currently stuck on the same tally, as he tries to push through a move to Toronto FC.

While Sargent strives to leave England behind, Agyemang’s own journey on English shores only looks to be starting, with a hope that he can adjust to the challenges of the Premier League comfortably, if Leeds do make a successful move, having been a potent force in front of goal wherever he’s called home throughout his career to date.
Lauded as a “dangerous” figure for defenders to thwart by journalist Leigh Curtis when starring for the Rams, Farke will be excited at working alongside the free-flowing number seven, as he aims to improve another striker, much like he has managed with a revitalised Calvert-Lewin.
He didn’t quite get the chance to do that with Sargent, but if Leeds are willing to drop £20m on the EFL superstar, the ex-Norwich boss could have a similar style of striker to experiment with, as the Whites seek out more firepower to convincingly beat the drop.
The next Calvert-Lewin: Leeds hold significant interest in £40m talent
Leeds United hold significant interest in signing this attacking monster, who is similar to Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
