‘Simply shocking’ – Fans react as Aston Villa confirm matchday prices for Newcastle game

‘Simply shocking’ – Fans react as Aston Villa confirm the matchday prices for the upcoming Premier League game against Newcastle.

The club announced significant ticket price increases for the upcoming Premier League season opener against Newcastle United, with adult tickets ranging from £58 to £92 and under-14 tickets starting at £16.50, also reaching up to £92. This follows a 5% rise in adult season ticket prices.

The Football Supporters Association tweeted: “Simply shocking matchday prices from #AVFC for their season-opener against #NUFC next month. £77 for a ticket in the Holte End is madness. #StopExploitingLoyalty”

Henry Green of astonvillanews.co.uk wrote: “Aston Villa’s struggles with Profit and Sustainability rules have been well documented this summer.

“It has been a very slow start to the window for Unai Emery‘s side, who still have a lot of work to do if they are to compete for the Champions League again.

“Several additions are certainly going to be needed at Villa Park; however, PSR issues have so far halted any progress this summer.

“With the season set to begin in just a few weeks, Aston Villa‘s latest announcement has left supporters in shock.

“Aston Villa supporters are going to be forced into spending more money next season.

“Despite all the success on the pitch for Emery and his Villa squad in recent years, the news that ticket prices are rising again for Villa’s opening match of the Premier League season against Newcastle United has left fans disappointed.

“Adult tickets start at £58 and rise all the way up to £92.

“For under-14s, prices start at £16.50, but again rise to a shockingly high £92. Villa had already confirmed earlier this summer that adult season ticket prices would rise by five per cent.

“After hearing about the price hikes, one fan called for the introduction of a price cap on home tickets.

“Expectations for Emery’s side are lower next season due to their lack of transfer activity, and some fans don’t think the club will be able to justify the costs.

“Villa can only use PSR as an excuse for so long.

“It should not be the fans’ responsibility to ensure that the club complies with the financial regulations.

“Trying to justify prices with claims that the club could slip down the table won’t cut it with supporters, especially due to the lack of transfer activity.

“The sad reality is that if a Villa supporter does not want to pay these new prices, there will be someone desperate to take their spot, whatever the cost.”

Fans react as Aston Villa confirm matchday prices for the Newcastle game…

@VillaWayne: The bubble won’t be far from bursting…our fans paid these prices for the elite nature of last season. Now it’s back to a bit more reality and having to sell more players… the ground will have empty seats this season sadly

@RichieLionel81: In no defence of these ludicrous prices, the route to getting some sense back on pricing is 1) all clubs stopping paying ever bigger wages to players 2) most importantly ending the tyranny of psr and scr rules. – Again no defence of obscene prices

@AronT_AVFC: There is a cap on the price of away tickets to stop clubs exploiting fans of opposition teams. Perhaps they need to consider adding caps for home tickets too, as clubs don’t seem to hesitate to exploit their own fans instead. Reality of modern football, really depressing.

@ChrisLukeJones: £77 for a ticket in the Holte End for a premier league game. They do not want supporters going regularly. They want as many different people through the gate as possible. Atmosphere getting nuked in the process. All in the name of greed and PSR. Footballs on its knees.

@JHD4REAL_: These prices will have fans turning to non-league football. Shocking again. Over £200 for a family of 4 to watch 90mins of football.

@nffcbywater123: Under 14 £82 🤯

@gortavfc: Those prices are extortionate, greedy, exploitative and disgusting. They’ll get away with them for this game because it’s the first of the season, but good luck selling out when our form dips or when it’s £77 against shite like Wolves

@MitchellinMan98: We concentrated the anger at Heck while he was in post but the reality is it’s the club who price out fans and replace them with tourists. £77 is scandalous. There is no financial necessity to do this as a PSR measure. Remorseless greed has irreversibly damaged Villa Park.

@ryanNUFCmad1986: Shocking this but they’re far from the only Premier League club charging astronomical prices. Man Utd got rid of £25 kids ticket prices & even at St James Park, tickets in the Leazes & Gallowgate were between £47-£50 last season & imagine that will go up this season also.

@aroundgroundsss: Premier league football for you. £77 is laughable

@astonvilla___: If you’re gonna charge that price, sign a player for 100m 👍

@GarySmithJnr: I paid £78 for zone one last season, it’s now £82 this year. That’s an awful lot of money to go the football.

@mike_smith83: Imagine the price of tickets if we’d have actually won something 😳. Not long before the first £100+ ticket for normal GA tickets. It’s no surprise that the atmosphere at majority of home teams has dramatically fallen.

@Ursodave: Absolutely ridiculous prices tbh. It’s on telly, the first game of the season, we need those seats filled and the stadium roaring. I’m there as a ST holder and yeah that was expensive, but these prices don’t feel sustainable for us at all. Killing the soul.
