Fulham bans and ‘threaten to fine’ Alex Iwobi over social media post leak

Fulham bans and ‘threaten to fine’ Alex Iwobi over a social media post leak involving behind-the-scenes changing room footage on Snapchat.

He usually shares insights into off-pitch life and the videos go down a hit with fans, but recently, certain videos have disappeared and fans have been left wondering why. Now he has explained why that has been the case.

Iwobi explained that someone within the club raised the issue and that a fine has been threatened if he continues.

Despite Tom Cairney’s contract expiring in June, Iwobi’s Snapchat post showed him at the club, eating lunch at the training ground before a new one-year deal was announced on July 15th.

The move comes after he appeared to leak Cairney staying at Fulham

He says in his video: “For those that are wondering why I’ve been snapping BTS (behind the scenes) in the change room, there’s one person in the media team that’s been saying I haven’t been capturing the right stuff. So there’s no more BTS.

“They also said I might get fined if I continue to do so. They’re trying to ban snap in our change rooms.

“So yeah. That’s why they’re snapping BTS. It’s a shame, man. I know you guys enjoy seeing what my teammates are like behind the scenes, but I have to respect the rules where.”

Nottingham Forest’s Ola Aina is another player who uploaded similar content on Snapchat as part of a more open look into life as a footballer, with both he and Iwobi having a lighthearted battle with each other following Fulham’s 2-1 win over back in February.

Fulham’s decision to restrict Iwobi reflects growing concerns in football about the risks of unrestricted social media access to private team areas, such as dressing rooms and training grounds, where sensitive tactics or conversations could be exposed.

While Iwobi and fans may be disappointed by the loss of this unique access, the move highlights the balance between player personal expression and professional obligations to protect the club’s interests.

Speaking to The Athletic, Iwobi said: “It became a Snapchat derby.

“Especially because me and Ola grew up together. We went to the same school and grew up on the same road.

“I’m just happy we beat Forest home and away. Ola messaged me saying, ‘Alex, don’t even entertain or mention my name.’

“I was like, ‘Bro, don’t worry, I’ll spare you, but I’ll let you know we won.’”

Here’s how fans reacted after Fulham bans and ‘threaten to fine’ Alex Iwobi over some of the social media posts he published…

@s1mon_gb: its funny cus to the fans its not that deep but fairs man, he should’ve been a bit more careful

@BillJac89599502: Media team is just angry he’s outshining them he made Fulham the definition of a midtable club a talking point in a season where there was a lot of teams competing for Europe.

@SunderHawks: He was leaking announcements on his snap, if he kept it up he’d be leaking tactics next

@NFFCLeighton: Get him and ola on the Snapchat in the dressing room put that promise in his contract and we only have to pay £1.50 a week #NFFC

@just_guy81041: everything is getting mad regulated feckk what happened to authenticity man

@DizzyNFFC: Get him in. #NFFC

@CM1Z_DCFC: Football is wank. Just let them vibe and connect with fans you money hungry c*nts.

@AverageNFFC: iwobi to Forest, here we go!

@pte_e4177208: Does this mean Aina won the Snapchat derby??? #NFFC #FFC

@JJ_B__: Iwobi knows exactly what’s he’s doing with how he’s worded this. And too right @FulhamFC. if your media team can’t create interest like one player and his snap story, it says a lot more about your capabilities. Controlling what he posts does not make you look better 🤡

@Dan_Green23:
– No new signings
– No new kit
– Rugby at the cottage
– Local football team
– Most expensive season tickets
– BCD friendly in Portugal
– Finding out Cairney has resigned via Iwobi’s Snapchat
What a summer! #FFC

@SG__FFC: They should just give Iwobi a Snapchat goal involvement bonus, every goal or assist he can post a story. #FFC

@foreverayellow: not being funny but i dont understand why it takes clubs so long to get an announcement out there these days. beat them to the leaks. sooner the better

lifeofballerss: Ola Aina is sweating rn

barberstopglobal: The media team are just jealous of the content and the attention it was getting lol 😂

sebastiantiradoo: I wonder which player got fed up that had to bring this to their attention

mosesduckrell: They say footballers are boring and have no personality but the minute the show personality all of a sudden it’s too much? Boyyyyyyyyy

pettz.14: Media team probably did that so they can’t start their own BTS 😂😂😂 but nothing beats the original

thecottageproject.1879: I get both sides. As long as the side who wants best for our club is in the conversation then I’m happy. Let’s do what’s best for Fulham, any thoughts pls comment below would love to hear!

lowkeyh8r: Fans will pay premium for those videos. I think the club just want to reserve those right$ for themselves in the future. Everything is for sale.

kb.7____: It was the Adama wrestling match that did it 😂
