Rangers could sign “complete” CF who’s a dream for Moore

Glasgow Rangers are back in competitive action again this evening as they travel away from Ibrox for the second leg of their second round Champions League qualifier.

The Light Blues have made the trip to Greece to take on Panathinaikos with a view to progressing through to the next round, after beating them 2-0 at Ibrox last week.

Russell Martin will not have any new signings to add to his squad from the first leg, though, as the club have yet to make any further additions to the group.

However, there is work going on behind the scenes to get new players in before the Scottish Premiership opener against Motherwell on Saturday.

Fabrizio Romano claims that the Light Blues are closing in on a deal to bring Tottenham Hotspur youngster Mikey Moore to Ibrox this week to bolster Martin’s options out wide.

The 17-year-old winger, who can play on either flank, is eager to sign for the Gers and is poised to arrive on a season-long loan, without an option to make it permanent.

What Mikey Moore could bring to Rangers

The teenage forward could bring pace, flair, goals, and assists to Ibrox if he can hit the ground running and explode at first-team level, after a bit of experience down south.

Moore has played 21 matches for Tottenham to date, but he only started six times in the Premier League and the Europa League during the 2023/24 campaign. This means that he is still fairly inexperienced at senior level, and it remains to be seen if the starlet can perform consistently in Scotland.

The English youngster did start three of his five appearances in the Europa League for Spurs, though, and caught the eye with one goal and one assist in those games.

As you can see in the table above, Moore ranked highly among his positional peers in the competition as both a scorer and a creator, but it was in limited game time so it is hard to draw definitive conclusions from it.

The clips in the post above also show the kind of direct running and dangerous crosses that the winger can provide from the left wing, but some of his balls into the box were left unattacked.

This is why Rangers must ensure that they have a striker who can make the most of Moore’s creativity, as the young forward has the potential to be a big creative force for Martin.

The 17-year-old talent assisted 13 goals in 24 matches for Spurs at U19 level and two goals in five games at U21 level before his first-team breakthrough, which suggests that he has the qualities to be a fantastic creator for the Gers.

It is now down to Rangers to also sign a striker to partner him with before the end of the summer transfer window, and the Light Blues have been linked with an interest in Girona forward Bojan Miovski earlier this month.

The Macedonia international only signed for Girona from Aberdeen last summer, but Rangers are reportedly keen to bring him back to Scotland this season.

Why Rangers should sign Bojan Miovski

The Light Blues should push to secure a deal to sign the former Dons centre-forward because he would come in as a dream signing for Moore, if the club are also able to get that move over the line in the coming days.

As aforementioned, the Spurs youngster is an exciting and direct winger who looks to commit defenders to deliver dangerous crosses into the box, which could make him a striker’s dream at Ibrox this season.

Miovski would come in as a dream for Moore because he is a proven Scottish Premiership goalscorer who could be in the right place at the right time to finish the chances that the young gem could create for him.

The left-footed marksman, who was once dubbed a “complete number 9” by journalist Josh Bunting, only scored two goals in 17 games in LaLiga for Girona in the 2023/24 campaign, but his form for Aberdeen in the previous two seasons suggests that he could be a phenomenal signing for the Gers.

Miovski, who has scored against Rangers in the past, scored 32 goals in two Premiership seasons with the Dons, and could come in as an even better striker for Moore than Cyriel Dessers would be, based on his finishing quality.

As you can see in the table above, the Macedonia international is far more clinical, in terms of his ‘big chance’ conversion rate, than the current Gers number nine.

These statistics suggest that Miovski would thrive in a team that creates the number of high-quality opportunities that Dessers has had in his two years at Rangers, as he appears likely to finish a higher percentage of those chances than the Nigeria international.

This means, therefore, that the Girona striker could be a dream signing for Moore because he is the kind of striker who could reward the teenage winger with plenty of assists through his creativity.

Moore and Miovski could, then, form a deadly partnership at the top end of the pitch as they would be signing a creative winger and a clinical number nine who could consistently combine to punish opposition teams in the Premiership.
