Shrewsbury fans walk out on 74th minute and loudly boo after 4-0 defeat to Tranmere

Shrewsbury fans walk out on the 74th minute and loudly boo after a 4-0 defeat to Tranmere in just the second game of the season.

Salop fell behind on 19 minutes with Taylan Harris sending the ball through the keeper’s legs with a side-footed strike putting the hosts ahead.

Tranmere doubled their lead shortly after, Josh Davison putting it in the bottom corner of the Shrewsbury net.

Shrewsbury struggling to get into it, and the pressure kept coming keeper, Toby Savin, forced to make a superb save to tip Omari Patrick’s long range strike onto the bar.

With 36 minutes on the clock, Shrewsbury made a triple change in the middle of the park, Biggins, Scully and Gilliead off. Lloyd, Sang and Perry on.

As the half time whistle blew, the away end booed, a first half which saw Tranmere in full control, and the Shrews struggling to threaten at all.

In the second half, a much better showing from Michael Appleton’s Shrewsbury, Shrewsbury come out of the traps firing!

Perry struck a chance from the edge of the box and, Luke McGee tipping it over the bar.

But then a blow to Shrewsbury’s hopes of staging any kind of comeback, defender Will Boyle sent off, with two yellows in quick succession.

Jamie Tolley (Ex-Shrewsbury player said while on BBC Radio Shropshire): “I am really frustrated here. The referee has killed the game with that red card. Shrewsbury were on the front foot with confidence and driving forward. It’s now going to be a tough 30 minutes for them.”

Then came the screamer on 74 minutes, Omari Patrick into the top right corner. Three then became four for Tranmere with Kristian Dennis also finding the net.

Jamie Tolley (Ex-Shrewsbury player on BBC Radio Shropshire): “It was so unfortunate that Shrewsbury defender William Boyle picked up that red card because the they looked much better and on the front foot to start the second half. A very frustrating afternoon.

“This didn’t turn out how we hoped. Disappointing from start to finish for Shrewsbury. There are a number of players, including experienced ones, who will need to have a look at themselves after that.”

Here’s what was said on Twitter as Shrewsbury fans walk out on 74th minute and loudly boo after a 4-0 defeat to Tranmere…

@joesalopturf: That is simply disgusting. Yet again we are here with severe disappointment and angst. There needs to be change and quick. Yet again, we are supporting with passion, travelling in numbers and giving it our all. It may be an issue at the top, but still fight for the shirt.

@tylerbraddick: Fucking shitshow, are club is slowly falling apart. I’m not even angry anymore, just sad.

@loganstfc: What a reality check for the ones who were saying we’ll go straight back up. Not a chance in hell, absolute shit

@MarcPetty9: Supporting this club is often a test of character but, right now, it feels like the escape scene from the Shawshank Redemption – except the sewage pipe has no exit 💩 Thoughts with our loyal travelling fans. #Salop 🔵🟠

@Nath_Salop: That’s 2 performances that will do nothing to buy the board some relief from the criticism at the back end of last season. With a Tuesday/Saturday/Wednesday games coming up it could turn very nasty, very quickly, unless there’s a marked change in fortune and performances. #Salop

@CarlileStanton: The 1K+ who travelled to Prenton Park today didn’t deserve that. The chairman and DOF, however, very much did. #Salop

@pacificpaddy: Roland is starving this club with his stubbornness and pride, Moore is poisoning this club with his ineptitude. The patient is going downhill fast. #Salop

@dashers1886: @shrewsburytown you totally useless apathetic bunch of talentless donkeys. 1200 away supporters on a Saturday early ko – plus more watching on telly. You don’t deserve any of them you bunch of fraudulent drifters #salop

@CarlileStanton: Things seem bad now – and they truly are diabolical – but just imagine how good that 2027/28 National North promotion campaign is going to be. Silver linings and all that. Mind you, Roland will still probably be in charge… #Salop

@oliverhowells5: If I don’t laugh I’ll cry. My first game back will be Colchester at home. I’ll be sure to make my voice heard with others at the absolute dross Wycherley and his crew are serving up! Upped season ticket prices for worse football!? #salop
