Borussia Mönchengladbach fans clash with police and Brentford stewards before kick off

Footage has surfaced, showing Borussia Mönchengladbach fans clash with police and Brentford stewards before kick off on Friday evening.

Players were warming up pre-match, but it seems there was chaos playing out in the stands, with others watching the drama unfold. Take a look at the heated scenes in the videos below…

The pre-season friendly played out to a 2-2 draw, Grant-Leon Ranos put the visitors ahead, before a quick-fire double from Fábio Carvalho and Mikkel Damsgaard saw the Bees go ahead on 70 minutes, then a powerful strike from Franck Honorat levelled the scoreline with minutes remaining.

Griffin Park Grapevine forum member Fleet John said: “Away end was lively pre match”

Travel Tavern Bee replied: “Yes it was, I had the pleasure of being on the concourse with a load of Germans. Some questions.

“I purchased 4 tickets in N120 as our season ticket seats had been taken already , How did the website allow this?

“We did try to entertain the North stand at the usual entrance but were told we had to go round the ground, nobody mentioned it was away section.

“Got round to other end of the stadium and as we approached were met by some quite stern stewards and all got searched thoroughly, wallets etc, still nobody queried why was I wearing a Bees shirt, albeit away pink.

“Got to the turnstiles and stewards still happy to let us in, walked in and BM fans everywhere, wasn’t a pleasant atmosphere at this point, Plod had made a human wall across the entrance to the seats, A lot of raised voices and pushing, I was getting some strange looks and BM fans pointing at me, A copper than piped up and said to me you need to leave, So I turned round and found a steward.

“There was other Bees in there as well who were slightly confused by everything, Anyway rather than just being put in the East stand which was pretty empty we had to go round to the ticket office and get new tickets, apparently we were not the first, Missed the first 5 minutes of the game and ended up in the East stand, what a load of shenanigans.

“Most say stewards are quite rude towards the away fans, They were taking flags of them if that had Ultras on the flag. Oh well.”

Brentford head coach Keith Andrews said after the game, as per the club website: “It was a game of two halves.

“We started the game pretty well, looked dangerous, looked to play in behind them and caused them problems. We then became a little bit passive without the ball and didn’t play with enough energy and tempo.

“Towards the end of the first half, we swung it back in our favour and caused them issues, and in the second half, I thought we were outstanding – It felt more like us.

“I thought we reacted really well in the second half, played with a lot of passion, character, resilience and personality, which I was really pleased with.”

Brentford midfielder Mathias Jensen said: “I feel a bit mixed. We started the game well, but then we lost some momentum.

“The pressure we worked on didn’t really work after the first 12 minutes – they did well with some good movements – and we became slightly too passive.

“But then we started to go man-man at the end of the first half and that worked very well, so we kept that for the second half and we were way better, closer to them, and made it more difficult for them.

“We were disappointed that they scored in the end, but it was a decent second half.”
