Concerned Shrewsbury Town fans launch a new protest group calling for change after being left in the dark on the future of their club.
The 1886 say they are a group of dedicated fans demanding change due to ongoing frustration with the club’s direction under owner Roland Wycherley.
Despite reported takeover attempts, no progress has been made, leaving fans disillusioned. They criticise the leadership for raising season ticket prices after a relegation and poor performances, including a recent first-round exit in the Carabao Cup to Grimsby (losing 3-1), and before that, a 4-0 defeat at Tranmere in the second League Two game of the season, leaving them 19th. They remain winless, with just 1 point coming in the opener, a 0-0 draw against Bromley.
The 1886 calls for transparency, ambition, and accountability, urging fans to voice their discontent loudly at the upcoming Colchester game through chants and banners, despite potential restrictions. This is the start of a sustained push for change.

THE 1886 – A VOICE FOR SHREWSBURY TOWN FANS
“We are the 1886, a group of loyal Shrewsbury Town supporters united to call for change at our club. For years, fans have felt frustrated, overlooked, and left in the dark on decisions that shape our future.
“Under Roland Wycherley’s owner-ship, a number of reported takeover approaches have not progressed to completion. Each time, supporters have been left disappointed and wondering whether fresh ideas, investment, and ambition will ever be realised.
“The strength of feeling among fans has never been higher not because we have stopped caring, but because we care deeply about the direction of Shrewsbury Town. In our view, leadership change is the only way forward, and we will keep speaking out until the club reaches its full potential.
“This is our club. This is our voice. We are the 1886.”
Shrewsbury fans walk out on 74th minute and loudly boo after 4-0 defeat to Tranmere
A new statement emerged after the club were knocked out of the Carabao Cup.
“Knocked out, First round…
“Enough is enough. Months ago, this club had the audacity to raise season ticket prices after a relegation, and after serving up some of the most dire football we’ve had to watch in years, week in and week out. That decision still stinks today, and it’s a stark reminder of how out of touch those at the top have become with the very people who keep this club alive.
“Since then, nothing has improved. In fact, things have gotten worse – we’ve now been knocked out in the first round of the Carabao Cup. Another early exit. Another sign that there is no plan, no ambition, and no respect for the supporters who give their time, money, and passion year after year.
“We will not sit quietly and watch the soul of this club be eroded. The 1886 exists to hold leadership accountable and will continue to speak out until there is transparency, ambition, and a future worth believing in.
“Back at home on Saturday make your feelings known. Be loud. Be united. Show them we will not accept the direction this club is heading.’
THE 1886 COLCHESTER GAME PLAN
“With such short notice, we don’t have enough time to organise a full protest for Saturday’s home game against Colchester. But that does not mean we stay silent.
“Wherever you are sat make your voice heard. Chant loudly. Question the board. Let them know the supporters are not happy with the direction this club is heading. Every stand, every block make the noise impossible to ignore.
“Bring banners. Yes, they’ll most likely be taken within minutes, but its still vital they are seen even if oust for a moment. Those moments matter. Be prepared that you might need to hide them to get them through the turnstiles.
“We have to show unity and send a clear message that the fans are watching, and we demand change. This is just the start the pressure will keep building.”

There was reaction on social media after concerned Shrewsbury fans launch a protest group calling for change after being left in the dark…
@stfchewitt: Well said! Hopefully everyone gets behind this!
@bernie196291: Fair play 👏🏻👏🏻🔷🔶
@AlexHamWxm: Great work. SHARE! #Salop
@ShaunWhalleySZN: FULLY AGREE. LETS CHANGE THIS CLUB.
@joesalopturf: It’s not my place to comment upon the situation with the ownership or leadership of our amazing football club, but I will say that I back the club and whoever is running it until it changes. The club is in a time of uncertainty and one of undisclosed info. However what I will say is that, the results and atmosphere of the club of recent has not been what we were looking for. However, I am sure that things will be going on behind the scenes that will fix this. In the meantime, back the lads and sing your hearts out to make this good
@Shrews_zone: We Won’t Be Sold As He’s Put The Club Value Too High (13m I think), And No Ones Going To Pay That For A League 2 Side, Especially One That Is On A Decline
@joesalopturf: Like I said, I am not here to comment on the suitability of the owner and the club, I am just here to support them. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll stand for what is right, however we aren’t Morecambe or Wednesday yet. They are in real trouble and we should be standing with them.
@Chicken4631: Actually embarrassed that some fans of our club are comparing our situation to morecambe and Sheffield Wednesday, our owner may have made some bad decisions in recent years and we’re struggling to recover but he is certainly not in the same bracket as the aforementioned clubs.
@ShrewmourMill: The club can’t say this hasn’t been coming after the last couple of seasons. #salop
@MrThomasCorbett: Going to be more noise around this as the season goes on. Will the right things be done? #salop
@ControShrew: Been a long time coming this has! Well done guys 👍🏽 #SELLUP #Salop #RolandOUT
@jmendelsohn77: And so it begins
@Whitters0890: My dad would be turning in his grave, seeing the state of this club right now!!
@Shropshirelad00: @shrewsburytown time to go Roland
@changestfc: We have suffered poor teams, budgets and results for way too long. It’s now time we stand together and make ourselves heard. We are seeing the consequences of bad ownership sadly at Morecambe and Wednesday. We can’t let that happen to us. United we stand. We’re united together.
@Simonparry44: You need to start taking notice Roland Wycherley, Micky Moore and Liam Dooley @shrewsburytown
@Jacko9413: Take note Roland and Moore! We’ve had enough! #timesup #salop
