Non league club Ashton United condemns ‘pro-Tommy Robinson chants’ which were allegedly sung during their match against Stocksbridge.
The Northern Premier League Premier Division side said that such behaviour had no place in football or society, that it undermines their inclusive community values, and will result in bans for identified individuals, with zero tolerance for discrimination.
The chant continues to be posted on the club’s social media comments section and other clubs’ posts.
Manchester Evening News posted about the chant at Ashton United, getting over 2,400 comments.
A video has also emerged of an ‘Oh Tommy Tommy, Tommy, Tommy, Tommy Robinson!” chant was heard in the home end at the Blackburn v Birmingham match on Saturday.

A statement from the Ashton United Board read: “It’s been brought to our attention that during Saturday’s match a small group of AUFC supporters were singing pro Tommy Robinson songs during the match.
“We utterly condemn this behaviour in the strongest terms. It has no place in football or society. Not only is it completely at odds with our values as a club but it also undermines the efforts of everyone at AUFC, including our players, staff and volunteers, who work tirelessly to create a warm and inclusive family club.
“If you are identified as having done this you will be banned. Anyone using racist, homophobic or discriminatory language of any kind will be removed from the stadium and banned.
“AUFC is a community club that strives to bring people together and foster an environment where EVERYONE is welcome. We have a zero tolerance policy to any discriminatory or anti social behaviour.” – AUFC Board
The only comments accepted onto the Ashton United social media as the club condemns ‘pro-Tommy Robinson chants’ sung during the match…
Jonathan Fletcher: Well said. It was unacceptable. Those responsible have no place at OUR club.
David Hills-Taylor: I’m glad this has been picked up by the club. It was extremely disappointing to hear this coming from a section of the supporters and certainly not reflective of our fanbase as a whole. Quite a few of the fans stood where we were were visibly taken aback by that when they heard it. Our vocal support is generally fantastic – let’s not tarnish it with this sort of stuff. 👎
Benjamin Corry: An excellent and correct response from Ashton United Football Club
Other reaction regarding the chants heard at matches includes…
@Jols08: Back the team and let’s ensure that genuine supporters, players and staff enjoy the environment we try and create.
@janettocornetto: Fucking hell, that’s more embarrassing than anything I’ve seen in the pitch. 🤮
@elad_hcaz: Its a shame to hear that a small number of our fans bring politics into football. When i go and watch @AshtonUnitedFC I go to support my club, not to mention politics of any sort.
@GMNonLeague: Very well said, football should be inclusive to all!
@rupewhyte: Politics doesn’t belong at football, simple
@SMMiller14: Unless he’s gonna sign to play up front I see no reason to be chanting any political stuff at football. How does that support the team?
@StozUTB: Somebody go through all the people who endorse chants like this and look up “Politics in Football”. There’s often a very hypocritical trend amongst the lot
@hotd1ggitydog: Absolute fucking cringe 🤢😂
@aqibishtiaq: The “fans” chanting this are a disgrace. I hope @Rovers take action & ban the morons chanting this – Hate of any kind doesn’t belong in our club or stadium. Thankfully it sounds like small group of morons who couldn’t be heard much further than their mindless gaggle of idiots.
@CD1875_: Heard this outside the ground and was perplexed
@Roverexcited: What an embarrassment to @Rovers we don’t want these wankers at our club he and his followers are what’s wrong with the UK disgraceful twats. Fuck off abroad with that short assed coward. @GiallorossiBlue @ste_smalley
@XBC_1997: Are these the same dickheads who say “kEEp PoLiTiCkS oUT oF MaH FooTieH”? Good grief…
@GiallorossiBlue: It’s those absolute bell ends from the top right of the Blackburn End lower tier @Roverexcited. Morons the lot of them. Good to see our assessment that they’re c*nts turned out to be true. Worst fans in the stadium.
@Noordad: This is the garbage as a Rovers fan puts me off attending games especially with my children
@CitizenF__: What’s the betting that those singing it are the ones who moan about keeping politics out of football.
Back in March 2025, Walsall fans also caused a stir by singing the name of Tommy Robinson after their League Two match with AFC Wimbledon.
A clip of the supporters chanting about the controversial figure as they came out of the Saddlers shopping centre on Saturday afternoon has been doing the rounds on social media.
It was also posted on the Tommy Robinson 🇬🇧 (@TRobinsonNewEra) Twitter account, with it going on to get over 400,000 views and thousands of replies.
