Serie A | Como 2-0 Lazio: Nico Paz magic hurt Sarri comeback

Cesc Fabregas and Como got off to a great start this season, sweeping Lazio aside 2-0 with Nico Paz scoring one and assisting another, while the referee made Serie A history.

Assane Diao, Nicolas Kuhn and Alberto Dossena were out of action for the hosts, who started their Coppa Italia campaign with a 3-1 win over Sudtirol last week. Alessio Romagnoli started a two-match ban for the Aquile, with Matias Vecino, Samuel Gigot, Gustav Isaksen and Patric injured after a summer where no new signings were allowed due to a transfer embargo. Nicolò Rovella was in no condition to start, as he became a father this morning and only reached the stadium at the last minute.

See how it all unfolded on the Liveblog.

Nico Paz blasted over from the edge of the area on a corner kick routine and Jacobo Ramon fired off target from a tricky angle, while Mario Gila needed a great sliding tackle to stop Nico Paz inside the penalty area.

Mergim Vojvoda stung Ivan Provedel’s gloves with a half-volley from outside the box, while Matteo Guendouzi’s scuffed finish failed to make the most of a Matteo Cancellieri strong first touch.

Nuno Tavares managed to squirm away from two to lay it off, but Taty Castellanos couldn’t turn under pressure from Maxi Perrone.

The hosts finally found their breakthrough at the dawn of the second half, as Nico Paz gathered inside his own half and turned Nuno Tavares, sending Douvikas through to hold off Mario Gila and fire in one-on-one with Provedel.

It was almost 2-0 soon after, Da Cunha’s chest and volley skimming the near top corner after a poor Manuel Lazzari clearance.

Castellanos failed to get on the end of the Mattia Zaccagni roll across from seven yards and Vojvoda again curled just over.

Lazio had the ball in the net on 64 minutes when Castellanos controlled a long Mario Gila ball and beat Jean Butez one-on-one. However, history was made with the first ever Serie A refereeing explanation given directly to the stadium, with Gianluca Manganiello using his microphone to confirm that Castellanos was offside.

Instead, Nico Paz doubled Como’s lead with a sensational free kick that bent around the wall and into the near top corner, giving Provedel no chance.

Vojvoda continued to threaten and smashed his shot against the crossbar after skinning a defender, while Provedel got down quickly to palm a Da Cunha daisy-cutter off the line.
