Man United vs Sunderland live: Full Premier League lineups

Sunderland are looking to build on a record of one defeat from their first six matches in the 2025/26 Premier League when the Black Cats visit Manchester United on Saturday.

The Championship play-off winners are unbeaten in four, winning 1-0 at Nottingham Forest last Saturday through Omar Alderete’s goal.

United manager Ruben Amorim is under pressure after three successive away defeats in all competitions, although his side have beaten Burnley and Chelsea by a goal each in their last two home games.

United midfielder Casemiro is back from a ban, as is winger Amad Diallo following a family bereavement.

“They are really important,” Amorim told MUTV of the pair. “Casemiro gives us a lot of experience. We missed Amad in the last game.

“When we want to push some opponents, he is one extra guy who is very good in one against one [situations] So we are really happy to have him.”

Senne Lammens makes his United debut by replacing Altay Bayindir in goal, behind a defence newly featuring Leny Yoro.

Mason Mount also starts in midfield. Harry Maguire, Patrick Dorgu, Manuel Ugarte and Matheus Cunha are on the bench.

Centre-back Lisandro Martinez has a long-term knee injury and wideman Noussair Mazraoui is out until after next week’s international break.

Sunderland’s Luke O’Nien returned from a long-term shoulder injury on the bench against Forest, where the midfielder features again this time.

Winger Romaine Mundle is expected to miss around six weeks with a hamstring issue and defenders Dennis Cirkin (wrist) Leo Hjelde (Achilles) and Aji Alese remain out, with manager Regis Le Bris predicting Alese will miss around a month.

“Our new players have brought a new energy to the group and the players who were already here have been great. The connection and the energy is really positive and we are facing new challenges every week in a competitive league.

Sunderland Football Club manager Regis le Bris

Le Bris said he had spoken to captain Granit Xhaka this week about “areas we need to develop to become a better team”.

“Playing at Old Trafford demands strong personality and character and I believe we will need to upgrade our performance,” added Le Bris.

“[United] are strong and create lots of chances with their talented players. The only thing we can control is our way of playing and we are aware it will be a tough challenge.

“We have analysed our opponents and will try to find the right way to manage their strengths.”

Amad Diallo top-scored for Sunderland with 14 goals and four assists during a season-long loan from United in 2022/23.

“Amad was really important here and our coaching staff like him as a person and a player,” said Le Bris, who was appointed in June 2024.

“It will be great to say hello but during the game we will be fully focused.”
