Matteo Cancellieri’s first brace in Serie A was cancelled out by Ché Adam and Saul Coco’s goals, but Danilo Cataldi’s penalty kick at minute 103 allowed Lazio to avoid defeat.

Lazio were held to a 3-3 draw by strugglers Torino at the Stadio Olimpico today.

The Biancocelesti were in full crisis mode, with eight players unavailable, including the suspended Matteo Guendouzi and the injured Adam Marusic, Nicolò Rovella, Oluwafisayo Faruq Dele-Bashiru and Mattia Zaccagni.

The latter was officially ruled out on the morning of the game and will miss the upcoming games with the Italian national team as well.

Torino took the lead early in the first half with Giovanni Simeone, who had already scored at the Olimpico a few weeks ago in the Granata’s 1-0 win over Roma.

Ivan Provedel touched the ball from a Marcus Pedersen cross from the right, but sent it on Simeone’s feet, making it easy for the Argentine to score with an empty goal.

Lazio quickly replied with two Cancellieri goals in the space of 16 minutes.

The Italian has already equalled the number of goals scored in 2024-25, three.

The first goal came from a counter-attack, seconds after a crucial Provedel save to deny Cyril Ngonge.

Cancellieri outsprinted Lazaro down the left, cut inside and beat Israel with a left-foot finish from the edge of the box.

The second one came in a similar fashion, with Cancellieri beating Lazaro down the left and finding the net after a flick inside the box.

The Granata reacted strongly in the second half as they kept the ball with confidence and didn’t concede big chances to the home side.

Marco Baroni’s substitutions worked out as well as two of the replacements, Niels Nkounkou and Ché Adams, wrapped up the equaliser at minute 73, with the Scotsman scoring his first season goal.

Torino continued to push, Adams earned a corner kick in the stoppages, which Saul Coco converted in the Granata’s lead with a towering header.

The game resumed with less than a minute remaining, but Coco caused a blatant penalty kick seconds after giving their teammates the lead. Referee Marco Piccinini initially didn’t see the foul on Tijjani Noslin, infuriating Lazio players. A big fight broke out with two Biancocelesti falling and covering their faces in pain.

Staff members of both sides had to intervene to calm the waters, and Piccinini needed an on-field VAR review to spot the penalty kick for Lazio and give a yellow card to Guillermo Maripan, who had hit Valentin Castellanos with his shoulder.

Danilo Cataldi took the first penalty kick in his career at minute 103, and his goal was the last touch in a crazy game.
