Aldershot board of directors issue statement after social media ‘rumours’ emerge

The Aldershot Town board of directors have had to issue a statement after ‘rumours’ emerge across social media recently.

Rumours spread claiming the National League strugglers are facing administration, with unpaid player salaries, payment issues, and owner Shahid Azeem unable to continue funding the club.

But the club’s board of directors issued an official statement strongly denying the rumours as “complete fabrication” and “malicious trolling”, traceable to one individual on a forum.

STATEMENT:

Statement from the board of directors regarding social media misinformation:

It has been brought to the clubs notice that there is misinformation being spread on various social media outlets that the club has/is going into administration.

The club can confirm that this is a complete fabrication which can be traced back to one original source on a national football forum who has for some time been trying to create damaging rumours about the club.

This individual source has also suggested that players have not been receiving their salaries on time which is also completely untrue.

The club fully understands that reading such misinformation on social media will cause concern to supporters which is why we have taken this step to publicly refute and dismiss the claims as nothing more than malicious trolling.

The directors are now and wish to remain fully focused on giving the manager whatever support he needs to ensure that Aldershot Town can move into a more positive position in the league and will therefore be making no further statements regarding this matter.

Last week, there were claims by one fan, named ‘Return of J’, on the footballforums.net website that the club faced ‘really dark times’, with ‘concerning news about to come out about the club in the next few day’.

The same user added ‘the club’s currently in a very dark place and it’s down to him. He can’t afford to run it anymore, but won’t relinquish the power. Luckily for you lot it seems his hand is about to be forced.’

Another user said ‘At present there is less than no money after loan repayments, hopefully enough to cover wages.’

This sparked concerns, with forum user ‘Future Shot’ saying: “This is absolutely outrageous. Azeem’s vision for Aldershot by 2026 was to be financially debt free, redevelopment done and to be a football league side again.

“We’ve been well and truly lied to but to be honest most of our fans knew he was a lier many years ago. Really didn’t expect the club to go into Administration again.”

‘Return of J’ went further, saying “There’ve been lots of issues around payments of clauses too” and on Tuesday 16th said “Aldershot players been given the news today as well, I’ve seen two messages from two of your senior players confirming it.

“It’s the next set of payments which are going to be an issue, so unless there’s investment by Friday (there won’t be) then the writing’s on the wall. I take no pleasure in it at all it’s sad to see, but you will see. Hopefully when it removes Azeem it’ll turn out to be a good thing for the club’s long term future.”

Since the club’s board of directors spoke out, ‘Return of J’ said on the forum: “That’s brilliant. Let’s see how it transpires then – I’ve got evidence of everything I’ve said. Will be interested to see how they spin it when they have to break the news to fans.”

Shotsfan1993: All you are doing is sh*t stirring at this point. Maybe spend more time focusing on the club you actually support rather than the one you claim to have no affiliation towards

‘Return of J’: “I’m not shit stirring anything – people on here have continually asked for updates as your club don’t provide them.

“Go through and find anything that I’ve posted that’s turned out to be false. If you believe what’s written there you’re gullible as anything. If the club knew it wasn’t true they’d press legal charges/

“I have no bone to pick with the club, I just pass on what I know.

“If someone from the club wants to contact me and tell me to stop then that’s also fine. But they know full well what I’m posting is right.

“I’m not proving anything by throwing anyone under the bus. The proof is in everything I’ve posted.

“If the club choose to challenge it further and I need to prove anything then I will do. Funnily enough though that won’t happen, as they know just as well as I do that everything that’s been put on here is true, but it’s just stuff they wouldn’t have liked to have been leaked in the public domain.

“There are goings on like that at every football club. Aldershot just seems to be one of the more eventful ones due to the incompetent ownership.”

This is how fans reacted on Twitter with the Aldershot board of directors taking to issue a statement after social media ‘rumours’ emerge…

Gary Michael D: Great that the club has issued this statement it was very needed. Please can we request that we have an update from the club Chairmen, regards the way forwards and direction of the club. We are averaging around 2300 fans per game at the moment. We need to Speculate to accumulate. Are we likely to sign a forward to help get us out of the relegation doom loop? Clear and factual communication is needed from the club to prevent false information from being taken as facts.

@CymraegATFC: Again, like we’ve asked before. Our fans demand the release of financial forms that show that we are stable

@JoeRapley8: As if people actually believed it 🤣🤣

@iambobert85: @KieranMaguire are you aware of anything happening to Aldershot town and the rumours of them going into administration?

@MattCrivelli: Some rumblings about Aldershot going into administration… Sad news, unfortunately stuck with an owner who has no interest in the club but won’t give it up

Mark Chatterton: Delighted to hear this update. Well done on issuing this statement.

Simon Gilbert: Thank you for the statement. Will be a lot of unhappy people on shotsweb now

Darren Scott: Thank you, it’s much appreciated reassuring us supporters.
