Rangers express interest in £6.5m Chermiti upgrade who’s “perfect for Ibrox”

It’s been a slow start to life at Rangers for Youssef Chermiti, although that lofty £8m price tag is starting to weigh a little less heavy for the former Everton man.

Four goals in 23 games doesn’t exactly make for pretty reading for the Gers’ marquee summer signing, although he is a man on the up following last weekend’s derby double.

Cast aside fairly swiftly by Russell Martin, the 21-year-old is reaping the rewards of regular game time under Danny Rohl, ousting Bojan Miovski as the club’s leading number nine.

One, albeit standout performance against Celtic won’t sway Rohl and the Ibrox board too greatly, however, with the Premiership side believed to be pressing on in their bid to land another leading centre-forward this month.

Rangers express interest in another January deal

Firmly in the mix in the title race once again, Rangers aren’t hanging about in their bid to strengthen Rohl’s squad, already sealing a double swoop for Tuur Rommens and Tochi Chuckwuani.

This comes amid reports that the Glasgow side have also lodged an enquiry for Sunderland pair Romaine Mundle and Dan Neil, with the two men on the periphery at the Stadium of Light following the Black Cats’ promotion last season.

The Light Blues are then looking far and wide amid this extensive recruitment drive, although they might also be looking a little closer to home, following latest reports on their interest in one Premiership sensation.

Indeed, as per Football Insider, both Rangers and rivals Celtic have expressed an interest in Hibernian star, Kieron Bowie, with a raft of EFL Championship clubs also keeping tabs on him.

As per the report, Hibs are keen to keep hold of the 23-year-old, rather than let him leave mid-season, although they are bracing themselves for interest before the window closes.

In terms of a potential price tag for Bowie, the Leith outfit are likely to demand around £6.5m, as per reports elsewhere.

How Bowie compares to Chermiti this season

Following the decline and subsequent exit of Alfredo Morelos, the centre-forward ranks have undergone real churn at Ibrox, with the likes of Cyriel Dessers, Danilo and Sam Lammers all failing to truly cut it in Glasgow.

There’s been encouraging signs from Miovski and Chermiti of late, it must be said, although with the pair netting just nine goals between them in total, an upgrade could well still be in the offing.

That’s where Bowie comes in, with the Easter Road hero already netting nine times himself this season, eight of which have come in the Premiership.

A return of 15 goals in 50 games in total across the last 18 months is a respectable, albeit unspectacular record, although it still eclipses with both Miovski and Chermiti have achieved of late.

In the case of the latter man, he notably failed to score at all during his time on the books at Everton, while Miovski netted just four times for LaLiga side Girona in 2024/25.

Bowie, across an extended period now, is the man in form, with analyst Kai Watson suggesting that he would be “perfect for Ibrox“, due to his work out of possession too.

The left footer is also an asset in a creative sense too, having provided three assists in the league this season, while averaging one key pass per game, as per Sofascore.

Again, for comparison, Chermiti has recorded one fewer assist, while averaging just 0.6 key passes per game for Rangers. Miovski, meanwhile, has only one assist, while averaging 0.5 key passes.

With Bowie having proven himself in Scotland’s top tier, he could be the ready-made solution to finally nail down the Gers’ centre-forward berth.

It would be a sucker blow for Chermiti, in particular, just when he has begun to find form, although the Hibs hero does appear to the perfect upgrade for Rohl and co.

Rangers can sell Gassama by signing £5m star who’s “dominating defenders”

Rangers could already cash in on Djeidi Gassama by signing this £5m transfer target in January.
