Rangers submit bid to sign “dangerous” star in amazing Cerny repeat

Glasgow Rangers continued their fine run of form in the Scottish Premiership with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Aberdeen away from home on Sunday.

Ahead of the game, the Light Blues confirmed the signing of Tochi Chukwuani from Sturm Graz to bolster Danny Rohl’s options in the middle of the park.

Belgian left-back Tuur Rommens is expected to be the next player through the door for the Scottish giants, as he reportedly underwent a medical on Sunday ahead of joining on a permanent deal from Westerlo.

The Light Blues will not be finished for the window with the signings of Rommens and Chukwuani, though, as there is more in store to get supporters excited before the end of the month.

Rangers make offer to sign new winger

Whilst adding a defensive midfielder and a left-back to the group will, hopefully, improve the defensive side of the team, the Gers are now looking to add more quality to their attack.

According to the Daily Record’s Scott Burns, Glasgow Rangers are working on a deal to sign winger Andreas Skov Olsen from Wolfsburg this month.

The reporter claims that the Scottish giants have submitted an offer to sign the Danish attacker on loan until the end of the season, as Rohl looks to add to his wide options before the end of the January transfer window.

The Daily Record’s accompanying article says that the Gers are now in talks with the Bundesliga side to get a deal over the line, and that they are expected to complete the signing.

It states that Wolfsburg are willing to send the left-footed star out on loan, despite paying £12m for him last January, because they want him to go out and play regular football.

Why Rangers should sign Andreas Skov Olsen

Skov Olsen was first linked with a move to Ibrox in January 2022, when he was at Bologna, and they must finally bring him to Glasgow, four years later, as he could be their next Vaclav Cerny.

The Czechia international spent last season on loan from Wolfsburg and delivered 18 goals and six assists, per Sofascore, in the Premiership and the Europa League combined.

Cerny, a left-footed right winger, was a brilliant signing for the Gers because he provided a consistent threat at the top end of the pitch for Philippe Clement, and then Barry Ferguson.

Skov Olsen has had a tough time in Germany, with two goals in 20 Bundesliga appearances in the past 12 months, but his form for Club Brugge before his Wolfsburg transfer suggests that he could be Cerny 2.0 at Ibrox.

The Czechia international only scored four goals in 22 Bundesliga matches for Wolfsburg, per Sofascore, before his loan move to Glasgow, which shows that Skov Olsen should not be judged only on his form in Germany.

He was described as an “extremely dangerous” winger by Wolfsburg sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz, and his form for Club Brugge across several seasons backs up that comment.

As you can see in the table above, the Denmark international provided a regular threat as both a scorer and a creator of goals as a left-footed right winger for the Belgian side, before his move to Wolfsburg in 2025.

Per Sofascore, Skov Olsen created a whopping 32 ‘big chances’ in the 2023/24 and 2024/25 campaigns for Club Brugge and Wolfsburg combined, which shows that he can consistently create big opportunities for his teammates to score, whilst also offering a significant goal threat.

This suggests that Rangers could have an exceptional talent on their hands if Rohl can get the Danish wing wizard back to his best, after a difficult year in Germany.

Cerny proved that a player struggling for form in the Bundesliga can get back to their best in the Premiership, which is why a move for Skov Olsen may be less of a gamble than it may seem on paper.

Rangers close in on making a better signing than Rommens & Chukwuani

Rangers are having a busy first transfer window under Danny Rohl.

Therefore, the Gers should aim to conclude this deal as quickly as possible so that he will be available for selection in the coming weeks, as they look to win their first league title since 2021.
