Rangers open talks over signing £6.5m striker

Glasgow Rangers are reportedly in talks to sign Danish forward Andreas Skov Olsen on loan from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg until the end of the season.

The Light Blues are expected to conclude a deal to sign the right winger on a temporary basis, a year on from his £12m move to Germany from Club Brugge.

Skov Olsen will not be the first player to arrive at Ibrox to bolster Danny Rohl’s squad, of course, as Tochi Chukwuani joined from Sturm Graz on Sunday, but he could be the first attacking addition.

Per WhoScored, no current Gers winger has scored more than two goals or provided more than two assists in the Scottish Premiership, something that the Dane, given his career record shown in the graphic below, could change by the end of the campaign.

However, the 26-year-old maestro may not be the only attacker who comes through the door at Ibrox before the window slams shut at the start of next month.

Whilst they have gone to Austria to sign a midfielder and Germany to look at a right winger, the Light Blues are reportedly looking a little closer to home for a new striker.

According to The Herald, Glasgow Rangers have made contact with Hibernian to be kept informed on centre-forward Kieron Bowie’s situation with the Premiership side in the January transfer window.

The report claims that they want to be kept in the loop with any developments over his future at Easter Road, amid interest from their rivals Celtic.

It adds that the Hoops, now managed by Martin O’Neill again, have registered an interest in the Scottish star, as they look to add a new centre-forward of their own this month.

The Herald reveals that Hibernian would want a fee of around £6.5m if any clubs decide to come in with offers for the attacker in the next few weeks, with interest from teams in England as well as Rangers and Celtic.

Why Kieron Bowie would be perfect for Andreas Skov Olsen

If Rangers can win the race to sign the Scottish marksman, Bowie would be the perfect addition to pair with Skov Olsen in the second half of the season.

In the Premiership and the Europa League combined, Youssef Chermiti has scored four goals from 4.78 xG and Bojan Miovski has scored four goals from 4.22 xG, per FotMob.

Bowie, meanwhile, has scored eight goals from 5.83 xG in the Premiership for Hibernian, per FotMob, which means that he has scored as many goals in the league as Miovski and Chermiti have managed combined domestically and in Europe, whilst also finishing chances with greater efficiency.

The 23-year-old star, who scored a staggering goal against Partizan in a Conference League qualifier at the start of the season, also scored six goals from 3.43 xG in the Premiership last term, per FotMob, which means that he has scored 14 goals from 9.26 xG in the division since the start of the 2024/25 campaign.

These statistics suggest that Bowie, dubbed a “threat” between the posts by Rangers Journal creator Kai Watson, is the dream striker for any creative player who wants their number nine to make the most of the chances that they create.

The statistics in the table above show that Skov Olsen has not been rewarded with the assists that his creativity has deserved in the past two-and-a-half seasons, with 17 assists from 33 ‘big chances’ created since the start of the 2023/24 campaign.

This suggests that he would be delighted to play with a centre-forward who can make the most of the high-quality chances that he consistently created during his time with Club Brugge.

Kieron Bowie

Bowie has only missed five ‘big chances’ on his way to scoring 14 league goals since the start of last season for Hibernian, per Sofascore, which suggests that he is the kind of striker who would thrive alongside Skov Olsen.

This is why the Scottish marksman could be the perfect signing to make after bringing in the Dane on loan, as their potential partnership in the final third could be lethal for Danny Rohl’s side.

Rangers close in on making a better signing than Rommens & Chukwuani

Rangers are having a busy first transfer window under Danny Rohl.

As a proven Premiership performer, who has showcased his quality with Hibs for almost two seasons in the top-flight, he could also have a good chance of hitting the ground running without needing much time to adapt.
