With half of the campaign now gone, it would be fair to say that this season has been one of ups and downs for Everton.
At certain points, David Moyes’ outfit have looked brilliant and capable of giving anyone a game, but at others, they’ve flattered to deceive.
Fortunately, the club look safe from another relegation fight and can enjoy their first season at the Hill Dickinson without too much stress.
However, not happy to rest on their laurels, Everton appear intent on adding to their squad, and if reports are to be believed, could soon land Moyes another Jack Grealish-esque star.
Everton target another Jack Grealish
One of the real bright sparks for Everton this season has been Grealish.
For example, he has produced eight goal involvements in 21 games for the club, but more than that, he has also provided the entertainment.
The Englishman might not be the most clinical of players, but when he is flowing and at his best, he is tremendously enjoyable to watch.
So it’s great news for fans that the club are looking to sign someone who could be another version of the 30-year-old.
At least, that is according to a recent report from a respected journalist on the continent, who claims that Everton are among several sides interested in Patrick Wimmer.
In fact, the reporter states that the Toffees have already made contact with the player and that, alongside three other Premier League sides, including Fulham, the Merseysiders are expected to initiate club-to-club talks with Wolfsburg in the coming days.
However, there is even more interest from abroad, with Serie A sides like Lazio, Bologna and Fiorentina said to be even more interested in the Austrian attacker.
It could therefore be a complicated transfer to get over the line, but given Wimmer’s immense ability, it’s one Everton should pursue, especially as he could be another Grealish.
Why Wimmer would be another Grealish
So, the first similarity to point out between the two attackers is their positional versatility.
Greaslish, for example, can and has played in both attacking midfield and left wing in recent seasons.
Wimmer, on the other hand, has shown an impressive ability to play on either the left or right-hand side and has even played up top and in the middle of the park on occasion.

The next similarity is that the Austrian is a useful source of goals and assists.
So far this season, he has scored three goals and provided six assists in 17 appearances, totalling 1152 minutes, which is a goal involvement on average every 1.88 games, or every 128 minutes.
However, when it really comes down to it, the main reason the 23-year-old could be seen as another version of the Englishman is that he, too, plays with incredible freedom and can be supremely entertaining to watch.
For example, former teammate Stefan Ortega previously described him as “crazy and care-free” when on the pitch.
Likewise, former Wolfsburg sporting director Marcel Schäfer said he “brings power, energy and pace” to the team and “plays without inhibition.”
As if that wasn’t enough, FBref also rank him in the top 9% of attacking midfielders and wingers in Europe’s top five leagues for successful take-on percentage.
In other words, it’s not just his output that backs up what is said about him, but also his ability to beat a defender one-on-one.
Ultimately, he might not be a big name in England, but if Everton want to add more excitement and quality to their attack, they could do a lot worse than going all out for Wimmer this month.
