Why his handshake snub disgraced Cricket

England National Cricket Team captain Ben Stokes refused to shake hands with India National Cricket Team all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar after the end of the Manchester Test.

Ben Stokes, a captain without grace, snubbed the handshake with Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar at Old Trafford in Manchester after the drama earlier in the match, and his act was a disgrace to the game of cricket.

Stokes fumes at Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar

India managed to pull off a stunning draw in the fourth Test match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, thanks to the heroics of Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar in the third innings.

The quartet batted exceptionally well and steered India to a position on the final day where they easily avoided a defeat. However, during the end stages of the game, a massive drama unfolded that led to a heated exchange between India and England players.

At the end of the 138th over, India were at 386/4 with 15 overs and one hour remaining in the game. That was when Ben Stokes approached Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar to shake hands to call it a draw.

However, Ravindra Jadeja (89*) and Washington Sundar (80*) decided to politely refuse his request as they wanted to play for a little longer with their hundreds in sight, which was quite fair, looking at the way the all-rounders were grinding throughout the day.

However, for some weird reason, Ben Stokes was left fuming after India refused to accept a draw. Stokes, along with England players, was seen passing some nasty comments at Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja to put them under pressure.

“If you wanted a 100, you should have batted like it earlier,” an England player told Ravindra Jadeja. “You want to get a Test 100 against Harry Brook and Ben Duckett,” Stokes told Jadeja, to which India star replied, “What do you want me to do, just walk off.” “F****** hell, Washy, get on with it! Get on with it, mate!” one English player yelled.

England captain’s act in the middle was to show that he doesn’t care about milestones, but the irony is that there are honors boards for milestones in Lord’s, which they consider sacred. Then comes the spirit of cricket part, and Stokes will always be remembered as a player who won the ODI World Cup with a deflected overthrow.

Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar hit brilliant tons to leave Ben Stokes unhappy

Despite all the drama and pressure, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar completed their stunning centuries at Old Trafford.

Just after Washington Sundar reached the milestone, Jadeja immediately walked towards Ben Stokes for a handshake, followed by the young India all-rounder.

Things were going smoothly till then, but Stokes decided to ‘behave like a spoiled kid’ and refused to shake hands with Sundar and Jadeja when all the players lined up for customary handshakes.

Stokes shook hands with the on-field umpire and snubbed Sundar, who was next to the official, and directly interacted with Ben Duckett, before ignoring Ravindra Jadeja, who was just behind the English opener.

India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja even put forward his hand seeing Ben Stokes approaching, but the England skipper ignored him, leading to a heated exchange between the duo.

“After that Jadeja went to Ben Stokes to shake hands after the match was over. Ben was still furious. When the actual discussion was happening, Jadeja was handling it really well. He was smiling. Towards the end, Ben Stokes didn’t shake his hands. And that’s when I thought Jadeja also lost his cool. He had kept his cool until then,” said Sanjay Manjrekar on JioHotstar.
