India vs England 5th Test Strongest Playing 11

Explore Team India strongest predicted playing 11 for the 5th Test vs England at The Oval. With Jasprit Bumrah rested due to workload management, find out who replaces him and how the squad shapes up for the series decider.

India vs England, the rivalry that runs through decades. This time, it’s India who has toured England, and what a fantastic Test series we have seen so far. All four Tests have gone on till the 5th day, and after a memorable comeback-for-the-ages draw in the 4th Test match at Manchester, the 5-match Test series now stands at 2-1 in favour of England. It all now boils down to the 5th Test match, which will decide the fate of the Test series.

The Oval brings many new challenges for the Indian team. The team will be without their star wicket-keeper, Rishabh Pant, who has fractured his foot while playing an unorthodox shot. He has been replaced by N Jagadeesan, but it looks unlikely he will get to debut. Dhruv Jurel is well in place to replace Rishabh Pant, but that doesn’t take away the fact that Rishabh Pant, the match-winner, will be missed big time in the decider Test match.

The Oval hasn’t been a kind hunting ground for Team India. It was just a couple of years back when India lost the WTC final to Australia here in 2023. Aside from that loss, Team India have a record of  2 wins and 7 Draws from 15 Tests at the Oval. However, the good thing is that the last time India faced England at the Oval, India won that match with Rohit Sharma scoring a brilliant century. So, as Team India prepare for the final Test match, the confidence will be high.

Match Details: India vs England 5th Test Match

Where: The Oval, London

When: July 31 – August 04, 2025, 3:30 pm IST

The England pitches have been a dark contrast to what we usually see here. 3 of the 4 Tests have produced flat wickets, and the result is also visible in the amount of runs batters have scored. For the first time in history, India have three batters with 400+ runs to their name. That’s a miraculous effort with Shubman Gill himself leading the charts with 722 runs to his name from just 8 innings. The last match at this venue saw over 800+ runs in an innings, so it is highly likely we will see another flat wicket on offer.

But what changes will the teams make for the 5th Test match? Will both teams stick to strengthening their batting, and compromising their bowling as they did in all 4 Test matches? Well, there are many questions that need answers, even more so for India, who are without Rishabh Pant, and potentially without Jasprit Bumrah too, if he is rested. So, as we wait for the match to begin, let’s in the meantime look at India vs England 5th Test match’s strongest playing 11 for both teams.

Team India Playing 11 Decoded

Right then, what does the strongest playing 11 for Team India look like for the final Test match? Well, the top 4 should remain unchanged, and that means Sai Sudharsan, who smashed a fifty in the last Test match, should maintain his place for the 5th Test match. With a settled top 4, we should see a big change at the number 5 position, and that’s Dhurv Jurel playing in place of Rishabh Pant. While Jaddu is also equipped now to play at 5, either of the two should take that position.

The main question that the team will ask is whether they persist with Sharul Thakur, who doesn’t look lethal in the bowling department, and his 30-40 runs may not add much value in comparison to someone who can take wickets with the ball. So, at least for the final Test match, Team India should contemplate playing a lineup that is focused more on taking 20 wickets than adding batting depth.

Another question will be on Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness, and the availability of Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh. If Bumrah is fit, he should continue to play this important Test match. However, Gautam Gambhir has already mentioned that Jasprit Bumrah shall play only 3 Test matches. Meanwhile, if Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh are fit, they should come in place of Jasprit Bumrah, if rested, and Anshul Kamboj, who might have to make way for them. Akash Deep will definitely get the priority, but if both are available, and Jasprit Bumrah is rested, both should play.

  • Josh Tongue
  • Sam Cook

The England team will mostly contemplate resting Jofra Archer for the 5th Test match. That means Gus Atkinson is likely to get a game, and that won’t be a bad replacement either. Gus is a brilliant bowler, and his pace will certainly ask a lot of questions to the Indian team. With Woakes and Carse at the other end, the bowling lineup may look a little below-par, and they certainly need the conditions to work more in favour of the bowlers.
