Twitter reacts to ‘pathetic team selection’ in Oval Test

Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has been left out of India’s playing XI for the fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at The Oval in London. Fans and experts expected Arshdeep to receive his debut call-up, but the team management opted for Prasidh Krishna despite his poor outings.

Arshdeep had been in contention during the fourth Test, but sustained a hand injury during a practice session. The fast bowler required stitches on his bowling hand, ruling him out of that game. Haryana pacer Anshul Kamboj was added to the Indian squad and handed his debut at Old Trafford in Manchester.

At the toss, captain Shubman Gill said that the pitch looked favorable for bowlers and confirmed three changes to the playing XI. However, he forgot to mention Akash Deep’s inclusion, who replaced Anshul Kamboj. The visitors made four changes in total as they aim to level the series.

Meanwhile, England won the toss and chose to bowl, extending India’s unusual streak to 15 consecutive toss losses in men’s international cricket.

Arshdeep Singh was in Strong Contention to Play the Fourth Test in Manchester

Arshdeep Singh, who received his maiden red-ball call-up for India, did not make his Test debut despite being part of the squad throughout the England series. The left-arm seamer has already played in nine ODIs and 63 T20Is, picking up 14 and 99 wickets respectively.

Singh was in strong contention to play the fourth Test in Manchester after Akash Deep sustained a groin niggle. However, Arshdeep suffered an unfortunate injury to his left thumb during a net session in Beckenham, ruling him out of the match.

India trail 2-1 heading into the fifth and final Test at The Oval. England won the first and third matches, while India claimed victory in the second and secured a draw in the fourth. With key players missing on both sides, India will look to level the series 2-2 and finish the tour on a high.
