A massive development has arrived regarding the participation of the India National Cricket Team pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah in the Asia Cup 2025 and the ODI cricket.
Reportedly, the premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah is planning to skip the 20-over continental tournament and stay away from the 50-over cricket until the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at home.

BCCI releases Jasprit Bumrah from the Test squad
On Friday, August 1, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released Jasprit Bumrah from the Test squad amid the ongoing fifth and final match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 at the Kennington Oval in London.
Bumrah was not picked in the India playing XI for the fifth Test against England because he had already completed his quota of three Test matches on the tour.
Notably, the World No.1 pacer had made the decision before the start of the series that he would only feature in three matches to properly manage his workload and avoid injuries.
He played the first Test at Headingley in Leeds, the third Test at Lord’s in London, and the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester. Jasprit Bumrah bowled 119.4 overs and bagged 14 wickets at an average of 26.00, an economy of 3.04, and a strike rate of 51.28.
Despite the series being on the line, he skipped the last Test match and was replaced by Prasidh Krishna in the playing XI as India made a total of four changes for the crucial match.
Asia Cup 2025 to start on September 9
India are the designated hosts of the Asia Cup 2025, but the competition is scheduled to be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to a mutual agreement signed between India and Pakistan, which restricts the two teams from traveling to each other’s countries for the next three years.
Asia Cup 2025 is all set to start on September 9, and the summit clash is scheduled to be held on September 28. The India National Cricket Team are placed in Group A along with the Pakistan National Cricket Team, Oman National Cricket Team, and the UAE National Cricket Team.
Also, Group B consists of the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team, the Bangladesh National Cricket Team, the Afghanistan National Cricket Team, and the Hong Kong National Cricket Team. The blockbuster India vs Pakistan match is scheduled to be held on September 14 in Dubai.
Jasprit Bumrah all set to skip Asia Cup 2025
According to a report in PTI, Jasprit Bumrah is highly likely to skip the Asia Cup 2025 because the participation in the continental tournament will put doubts over his availability for the home Test series against the West Indies.
The final of the Asia Cup 2025 will be held on September 28, and India’s Test series against the West Indies will commence on October 2, followed by the second match from October 10.
“It will be a tricky call but Bumrah loves Test cricket and there are World Test Championship points at stake. As far as T20 is concerned, he can play the series against New Zealand in January, which will be a dress rehearsal for the T20 World Cup,” a BCCI source abreast with the Indian selection process told PTI on condition of anonymity.
“If Bumrah plays Asia Cup and suppose India plays the final, no way can he play against West Indies at Ahmedabad. Obviously the question arises, do you need Bumrah against West Indies or he plays Asia Cup after a month’s break and plays the two Tests against South Africa. That call, Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir will have to take,” the source added.
Also, the report claimed that Bumrah will not play many ODI matches for the Indian team until the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
