The Indian team is considering calling back the likes of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal to the Indian T20I side for the Asia Cup 2025, while Sai Sudharsan emerges as a new addition after a stunning IPL rise.
With the Asia Cup participation confirmed, India will have to find answers to many questions while selecting the squad. The most pressing question would be raised on the selection of the team’s skipper, while Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah’s availability has also been thrown into doubt.
The likes of Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh, who have failed to be promising in the last IPL as well as domestic seasons, would also be under the radar of Gautam Gambhir and the Indian management.

Will Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal return to the Indian T20 Squad for the Asia Cup 2025?
Recent claims have suggested that the Indian selectors are considering keeping the doors open for Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill’s return to the Indian T20 side, ahead of the Asia Cup, which will be played from the 9th of September.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Test captain Shubman Gill have both not played in any recent T20 games due to a packed schedule with the other two formats, but their one-month break following the long series against England should make them available ahead of the continental championship.
However, it has also been confirmed by News18 sources that the national selectors would keep in mind that the home Test series against the West Indies begins on the 2nd of October, and if India qualifies for the final of the Asia Cup 2025 event, then it is scheduled to be played on the 28th of September.
However, it is worth noting that rather than Sanju Samson or Abhishek Sharma, who had mediocre seasons in IPL 2025, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 559 runs at a strike rate of 160, while Shubman Gill amassed 650 runs with a healthy strike rate of 155.

Sai Sudharsan eyes T20I debut after stunning IPL season
After an impressive stint with the Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans in the IPL, key batter Sai Sudharsan was picked by the Indian team to play the Test series in England. Sudharsan might not have had a sensational outing in England, as he played 3 games and ended up scoring just 140 runs, with one half-century.
However, this does not overshadow his stunning IPL form, as he ended the season with 759 runs in 15 games, surpassing the likes of Indian T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav and Indian veteran Virat Kohli to win the Orange Cap.
Siraj made his white ball debut for India in the ODI format back in 2023 and is likely to make a T20 debut in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025.
Will Indian selectors consider Shreyas Iyer’s return for T20s in the Asia Cup 2025?
“There is a five-week break, and with no cricket around, these three should walk into any T20 squad despite a stupendous show by Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma.”
“In 21 days in the Asia Cup 2025, if one plays till the final, there are 6 T20 games, and that’s not much of a workload. But obviously with 17-member squads allowed for the Asia Cup, selectors will weigh options carefully,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by PTI on condition of anonymity.
Amid all these claims, another doubt remains over the comeback of Shreyas Iyer. Despite strong batting performances in ODIs, IPL, and domestic games, Iyer has not been cited as an option in the Tests as well as the T20I squad.
The Punjab Kings skipper has shown his caliber in the shortest format, and his selection into the Asia Cup 2025 side will not only add a reliable batter to the Indian middle order but also another captaincy option if Suryakumar Yadav is not deemed fit for the tournament.
