South Africa cricketer Dewald Brevis smashed a century during the second T20I of the three-match series against Australia at the Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin on Tuesday, August 12. Australian captain Mitchell Marsh won the toss and chose to bowl first in the second T20 match in Darwin. Alex Carey returned to T20Is after two years, replacing the unwell Josh Inglis. Sean Abbott replaced Nathan Ellis in the playing XI. Rassie van der Dussen and Nqaba Peter were included in South Africa’s XI.

Brevis continued his aggressive innings and reached a stunning century off only 41 balls. At 22 years and 105 days old, he became the youngest South African to score a T20I hundred and recorded the second-fastest century by a South African in this format.

The Chennai Super Kings batter put immense pressure on the Australian bowlers, smashing eight sixes and nine fours on his way to his maiden T20I hundred.

Dewald Brevis Breaks Record for Fastest T20I Century Against Australia

Dewald Brevis also broke the record for the fastest T20I century against Australia, surpassing former New Zealand opener Martin Guptill’s previous best of 49 balls. Brevis recorded the first century scored in T20 matches between Australia and South Africa.

Among South African cricketers, Brevis achieved the second-fastest T20I century, overtaking Quinton de Kock’s 43-ball hundred against the West Indies in 2023. David Miller, who hit a 35-ball hundred against Bangladesh in 2017, holds the record for the fastest century by a South African.

Richard Levi smashed a 45-ball century against New Zealand in 2012, while Faf du Plessis reached the milestone in 46 balls against the West Indies in 2015.

The batter played until the final ball, guiding his team past the 200-run mark. He recorded the highest individual T20I score by a South African, putting his side in a commanding position to even the series in Darwin.
