West Indies capped off a memorable home summer with a thumping 202-run victory over Pakistan in the third and final ODI at the Brian Lara Stadium, sealing the three-match series 2-1. It was a performance to remember, featuring a captain’s knock from Shai Hope and a devastating bowling spell from Jayden Seales, as the hosts clinched their first bilateral ODI series win over Pakistan in 34 years.
Shai Hope’s batting brilliance sets the stage
Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Pakistan seemed to have the upper hand early on, but a masterful century from Windies captain Hope turned the tide. Hope anchored the innings with a blistering 120 off 94 deliveries, decorated with 10 fours and 5 sixes. He was well supported by Evin Lewis (37 off 54) and a late flourish from Justin Greaves (43 off 24), as West Indies posted a formidable 294/6 in their allotted 50 overs. Roston Chase also chipped in with a quick-fire 36 off 29 balls.
Pakistan’s bowlers struggle to contain
Pakistan’s bowling attack found it hard to keep the scoring rate under control, with only Abrar Ahmed (2/34) providing consistent breakthroughs. Naseem Shah picked up two wickets but went for 72 runs in his 10 overs, while Mohammad Nawaz and Saim Ayub managed a wicket each. Hasan Ali remained wicketless despite bowling his full quota, conceding 60 runs.
Jayden Seales’ six-wicket carnage dismantles Pakistan
Chasing 295, Pakistan’s batting crumbled under relentless pressure from West Indies’ pace battery. Seales delivered a career-best performance, ripping through Pakistan’s top and middle order with figures of 6/18 in 7.2 overs. The visitors never recovered from a disastrous start, losing four wickets for just 9 runs. Agha Salman (30 off 49) and Nawaz (23 off 28) offered brief resistance, but the rest of the batting unit failed to get into double figures. Gudakesh Motie (2/37) and Chase (1/16) provided crucial support as Pakistan were bundled out for a paltry 92 in 29.2 overs.

Historic series triumph for West Indies
With this emphatic win, West Indies secured their first bilateral ODI series victory over Pakistan since 1991. The series ended 2-1 in favour of the hosts, with Pakistan winning the opening match, and the Caribbean side bouncing back strongly to claim the next two. Hope was named Player of the Match for his superb century, while Seales earned the Player of the Series award for his lethal pace bowling throughout the series.

The only flaw in Hope, the ODI batter, was his strike rate, which he has now significantly improved, quality innings by Shai Hope pic.twitter.com/lNQZWmoZ08

Shai Hope – Consistency personified – ODIs.
Shai Hope – Good length and movement – Bugbear – Test cricket.

I just don’t get Shai Hope. How can you be an elite ODI batsman but not have that form and class translate to Test and T20I cricket? If there was a List-A franchise league, Shai would’ve made bank. @CaribCricket

Shai Hope low-key goated tbh. Now, I really need him to step up into the match-winner role for us. pic.twitter.com/QDhMjAgh0l

Most ODI 100s by a West Indies batsman:
Chris Gayle-25
Brian Lara -19
Shai Hope-18*Shai is just shy of one century of Lara’s tally of 19 centuries. In all probability should end up breaking Gayle’s record of 25 ODI centuries.

What a legendary “ODI” campaign he is having, nearly 6k runs @ 50(only 5 have) with 18
Reminds me when he said 3 years back, that he follows MSD in taking the game deep, works for him. #Shaihope pic.twitter.com/1wdrFB9gKs
