There have been intense speculations that Shubman Gill is all set to take over as all-format captain of the India National Cricket Team soon. In May 2025, Shubman Gill succeeded Rohit Sharma as India’s Test captain and showed his potential in the tough English conditions.
Gill has already impressed everyone with his leadership in the IPL, where he has been captaining the Gujarat Titans for the past two seasons. Since Rohit Sharma’s ODI future is uncertain, many have been suggesting that the BCCI and the national selectors follow the Indian cricket tradition.

Suryakumar Yadav is currently India’s T20I captain, and he is likely to remain at the helm till at least the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka. But some reports suggest that Gill is all set to be announced as India’s new vice-captain for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025.

He thinks his old t20 set up will be good and knows Gill is next captain, that’s insecurity by him.

The batting core is likely to remain unchanged, with Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, and skipper Suryakumar all expected to retain their places. Shubman Gill is all set to return to the T20I setup for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE.
This means Yashasvi Jaiswal is unlikely to make the cut to the squad. Rinku Singh’s spot is also not certain, but a few reports suggest that he will travel with the Indian cricket team to the UAE.
