Twitter reacts to Shubman Gill’s horror show in MCG T20I

Indian T20I vice-captain Shubman Gill has once again failed to put on a promising show in the second T20I in Melbourne, and fans seemed infuriated over his selection in the shortest format of the game. Some have attacked the Indian cricketer with insulting remarks like ‘Flatpitch prince.’

India are taking on Australia in the second T20I at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground. The Indian T20I team returns to the MCG for the first time since the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup. With Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian skipper, losing another toss, they were pushed to bat first.

The first T20I in the Australian capital was washed out by excessive rain after India looked strong with 97/1 in 9.4 overs. Suryakumar Yadav and Gill, who got some convincing starts after a long time, were much disappointed with rain ruining their innings.

Shubman Gill dismissed off Josh Hazlewood as his disappointing run continues at MCG

Shubman Gill, since being named the Indian ODI skipper, has not performed well in the Australia tour. He has also not got too many runs in the shortest format of the game since his comeback to T20 international cricket with the Asia Cup.

In his last 9 T20 innings since the Asia Cup, Gill has returned with the scores of 20(9), 10(7), 5(8), 47(28), 29(19), 4(3), 12(10), 37*(20), and 5(10). Criticisms have been fired at the Indian vice-captain as well as the Indian management for making him play the format despite several notable names still waiting outside.

The likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and even former opener Sanju Samson have been cited for the opening role in the Indian team, as many have urged Gautam Gambhir to reconsider playing Gill in the T20 format.

India’s top order collapses at the MCG

The Indian top-order has struggled horribly at the Melbourne Cricket Ground as they lost 4 wickets within the power play. After Gill was the first blood drawn by Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Ellis picked the wicket of Sanju Samson, who was promoted up the order at no. 3 on this occasion.

India looked in early trouble, and skipper Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed off Josh Hazlewood the very next ball after he was dropped off the same bowler by Josh Inglis. He struck twice in the over with the wicket of Tilak Varma, which reduced India to 4/40 at the end of the powerplay.

Axar Patel also got dismissed in the 8th over of the game after he misjudged a throw from Tim David in the deep and set out for a third run before turning back towards the keeper’s end. Inglis made no mistake, and the batter was found well short of his ground despite a desperate dive.
